For the past couple of weeks, I have had a consistent problem with my internet. As far as I can tell, there is too much congestion in my neighborhood (somehow). How can I tell? Because I have eliminated basically every other variable. I have: 1) Restarted computers (multiple computers effected) 2) Restarted modem and router 3) Connected directly to the modem
The clincher? I only have interruptions starting at around 8PM (though it goes all the way through 6AM).
So I get onto the support chat to see what is up. I include all of this information in the ticket. Finally get on with a support person (paraphrase): Hello I understand you have a problem with internet, have you tried restarting the modem and router? /facepalm
They "boost" the signal (whatever that means), still having interruptions. What do they do next? They ping me. Naturally everything is going to be green when you do one series of pings and it is an intermittent connection issue.
Anyway, now I have to call a tech to come out to probably go through the same steps and find no problem because it only happens after 8PM. It is seriously perfectly fine until about 8PM, then it dies frequently.

lol that's not bad at all
Standard procedure for any ISP, actually. Most people are actually dumb as shit, and these scripted "have you restarted?" things often solve a lot of the problems.

That I understand, but when I already stated that I restarted... that becomes questionable. Then the whole thing with pinging me to tell me "everything is fine".
That is how bad my internet is though. Yet according to chat all is well. I was sitting there monitoring the interruptions in my connection as the support agent is telling me this. I am just confused on what the tech is going to be able to do when he comes to my house at 3 in the afternoon or whenever when everything really is fine.

I had random dropping issues too, but after my modem firmware got tweaked by someone at Comcast everything was fine, so meh

if you had a Markov chain model of the English language, 90% of the time "Comcast" would be immediately followed by "sucks"

Hopefully this is the case. I just think it is strange that it is perfectly fine until 8PM.

EvilTelletubby is with comcast afaik.
It is sort of bad, but in general ISP service is junk.

And "balls" being preceded two words before by "comcast" would be disproportionately weighted.

Wow, that really sucks. It does sound like your neighbors could be eating up your bandwidth since it's, after all, cable
Usually nothing you really can do about that, as far as I know, but perhaps a tech actually could help you out. And yeah, ETT is with comcast so you might be able to ask him some questions about these issues. He has helped other comcast subscribers in the past.

I have never been able to stream either, every time I try to stream (even at 600kbps, when my upload speed is 3+mbps) I have a high tendency to have my internet drop out for some reason after a few minutes. I doubt many people would be interested in any of what I wouldve streamed, but the option wouldve been nice!

That was one of my problems. If you use Justin/Twitch, use this to find the best server to stream to. That alleviated a lot of my problems.

I had that problem when I first got my service hooked up, I would randomly disconnect sometimes 20 times a night. It has since magically cleared up tbh

Yep, same here.
Now if only they'd leave me the fuck alone when I want to torrent stuff...

I have always had problems with Comcast, I think they have had to replace my modem 6 different times -_- What always used to happen to me was at my old house at 3:00pm, Rain or shine my internet would drop, lagging me out of game. It was very annoying, They always blamed it on the modem. The only good thing I have out of the deal would be that I pay for 25mb Down and 5mb up, But I actually get around 35 down and 8 up consistently.

If Sheth hates you then you've really screwed up O_O
I loathe calling Comcast. Last time I called it was because I bought a new modem and it took like 15 minutes of pointless preamble and meaningless assurances when all I wanted is to just tell them my MAC address so I could use my internet again >:-(
The worst is that their service is the best in the area I'm in for the price.

If nodes are too congested in your area, then there is pretty much nothing you can do about it. Unless you buy a higher tier plan.
I've been limited at 6/2 for over a year and thats way lower than what the policy advertises, normal speeds are 22/2. Usually the policy states that my connection shouldnt be lower than half of the advertised but my ISP refuses to give me a new DOCSIS 3.0 modem which most likely solves all the issues as I've been told countless times. Been stuck on a old DOCSIS 2.0 cable modem for years, seen the contractors bring it in... but in the end its just a tease.
