I play because I want to play, if I want to chat I can do so after the game.

Most of the time i'll say absolutely nothing. the odd gg or go depending on my mood but honestly, when i'm playing bw i don't have mental capacity to have a chat about your day I think that's only your case. Chat takes away from the game, but not majorly. To OP, I practiced around my level with the same partners during regular StarCraft and we all improved. We became average, what a B- gamer is now. It wasn't until I sucked up my pride and let gosus have their way with me that I learned valuable lessons and perfected the game at a much more rapid pace. That said, people surely need to play with those they're familiar with before they go into a big boy's league without proper awareness of the discouragement they're going to face when challenges by abrasive players.

But when I could play, I was usually down to play a bunch of games with the same person, maybe practice against a certain build and chat about what went wrong etc. I was certainly not a 'go, go' person.

Chatting early game can be okay, but can also delay your timing a little bit, so if you're mannered, you don't chat ingame unless it's a friendly game with a friend. By the end of the game it's okay to ask if that person wants to play more or not and you can talk then, but don't blame people for getting on starcraft in order to play, some people don't have that much time and they just want to play a couple of games in their free time.

Yeah, same. Usually when people talk to me, it always comes off as them being condescending or trash-talking, especially since some people simply have a difficult time with English. I hate playing my friends, unless they're way better than me and I'm okay with losing to them. I hate when they win and say something like "lol I played so bad that game." because I just want to take a hammer and smash their fingers and go "NOW YOU'LL KNOW WHAT IT'S LIKE TO PLAY BAD WITH NO FINGERS." But uh... yeah. It's way more fun to watch obs games with friends while chatting, or play 3v3 bgh with friends and do crazy stuff.
