That's right! No more microing around for the first minute of the game. And no more minerals lost on missclicks and furious clicking.

2. You're not the first person to do this (I've seen players do this before on their streams) 3. With HotS auto-splitting your starting workers for you, splitting techniques unfortunately will become irrelevant (unless you just stick to WoL)

I'm not sure if it's worth it tho, because even if they don't wait a lot, probe 4 to 6 still have to wait so perhaps it's more efficient to send them each on his patch. This needs benchmarking !

I'm pretty sure I read some measurements about it when SC2 was released that there was little to no measurable benefit to splits. The benefit was small enough in BW such that even like a 4/5 pool would only come out 5 seconds later.

Now SC2 even splits the workers for you? I wonder what will be the next automation they will implement in that game... little by little they push the limits of the reason, you give in a little here and a little there and in the end the game will be just like LoL.

Splits in BW is important because if you send all 4 initial workers on the same patch, only 1 will mine and the rest will wait for the mining worker so that they can mine from the patch, which means you only have 8 minerals by the time someone has 32. VERY significant difference in the early game, especially if you're doing a rush. In WoL though, workers are smart enough to know that the number of mineral patches in a base is greater than one without someone telling them this fact, so you only lose the time that gets spent between workers traveling from the clicked patch to the first available patch but still pros don't want to lose that time either. If you're doing a 4/5 pool in BW, then 5 seconds is the difference between a dead marine and a marine in a well placed bunker or the difference between an unpowered gateway just short of producing a zealot and an unpowered gateway that has just produced a zealot; both of which can turn a loss into a win for the opponent. I believe it is more like a 10 seconds in a 4/5 pool in BW. In LotW though, I think we'll see units microing themselves. On topic: Idea is nice though, I used f1 splits with 6 different patches in open season times, then reverted back to 3-3, then tried out 2-2-2 (I once managed to do a BW-esque 2-2-1-1 too), sticked with 2-2-2. Then I quit SC2 and went back to BW for good.

It is also notable to mention that you save mining time because you no longer have to micro your workers into the closer mineral patches during the first minute of the game, which also makes this split more friendly for lower skill players. That said, it is sad (to me at least) that HoTS auto splits your workers, rendering this type of tricks largely irrelevant. I was also fully unaware that this split already existed, so I apologize for passing it off as my invention.
