Why I don’t smoke, drink, etc
For as long as I can remember, my dad has always smoked cigarettes. The good thing is that he never smoked inside of our house so we wouldn’t have to inhale second hand smoke. Seeing my mom and siblings always trying to get him to quit changed my own opinion about smoking. Never have I ever considered picking up smoking. Not just for the health reasons but mainly because I’m cheap.
The same goes for drinking and drugs, (illegal or semi-illegal included). Plainly, I can’t afford to. Since high school, I’ve seen many friends and acquaintances that picked up smoking, drinking, or other drugs. At the same time, I noticed they usually had cash to blow. I grew up with 4 other siblings so while we were never dirt poor, we had to make every dollar go a long way. Smoking a pack of cigarettes didn’t go very far.
Aside from the occasional social drink, I also have the Asian Glow. Basically, it takes me about half a beer to get super red. I also get ugly, red blotches on my body as well. Another reason for me to not drink alcohol as well. I’ve never really enjoyed getting drunk, even though it would cost less than most people. I don’t drink to drown out my problems. I don't like barfing into the toilet either.
Last but not least are drugs. A friend of mine tried to grow some weed in his closet but that’s another story. Drugs are expensive! I haven’t tried any and have no real urge to either. Nothing I would go out of my way to try plus costs money and the repurcussions if I got caught.
Cheapness: My anti-drug/smoking/drinking

So if you had excess cash it'd be a different story then?
|
What a funny blog... You basically say if you had money you would be wasted and shoot up drugs like the rest of your friends.
|
TL:DR 'I don't do these things because I don't have money'?
I work full time and I can easily save quite alot of money, but when the weekend comes, something inside of me just goes
'go buy yourself a drink or 2' 'roll a joint and enjoy the sunday'
It's a form of mental reward, you probably find a similar reward through other means, but that's how I keep myself from going crazy and wanting to kill someone.

Ugly red blotches? Perhaps you have a sensitivity to wheat beers? (I know a guy).
Response:
Cigs: being health conscious is enough of a reason not to smoke. Though it depends on how often, as well as other aspects of your health. I know many spry and otherwise healthy people who smoke. So, I guess they'll just die of cancer at a younger age, or something. But as George Carlin said, "Cigarettes are the only product that, when use as intended, kill the consumer."
Alcohol: you young folks have so much to learn. When you're a kid, you drink because everyone's doing it, it's against the law, it's advertised as what cool people do, you seek intoxication, and of course, peer pressure. Oh, and then the losers go to a party with the intention of picking up a drunk chick, who in a healthy state of mind, would probably say no. These are reasons why drinking as a kid is usually a bad idea.
But as you age, and God willing, you mature, drinking becomes one of social taste. A night out to the bar with friends. Having a drink with a visiting relative. A glass of wine at the table for a romantic night with the Mrs. The sweet taste of an oatmeal stout. And you no longer drink to get fucked up (at least not usually, pending how bad your week was). You seek that pleasant buzz. The one that gets the goofy smile on your face but doesn't slur your tongue. These are not reasons why you should drink, these are just reasons why I drink now.
Drugs: Too much to say about drugs, but the bottom line is due to drug testing at my work, I don't even smoke weed. So regardless of my opinion on certain types of drugs, me need pay rent so me no do drugs.
Good beer: the reason I drink beer.

Well, if I had cash to blow back then, I'd probably buy a computer that could play sc:bw and 56k to play online.

Yeah, your TL:DR is spot on. My reward is laddering on SC2, yeah I'm a masochist.

I don't understand the purpose of this blog...?
OP doesn't do drugs or smoke, and he for some odd reason feels a compulsion to divulge why here. What do you have to prove? If you don't do such things (and good on you for not doing so), then just don't do it.

Smoking is a social thing. never understood what's the point.
Drinking is a social thing. I think drinking is not as bad as smoking. In moderation (once a week with your mates or the Mrs.), it poses little harm.

Can't imagine my life without alcohol...i work 9 hours a day in this "shithole" called a job so when i get home i just wana smoke some shisha and enjoy a couple of cold beer to relax, maybe watch a good movie or play some games...

Here's my two cents on drugs: if you plan on doing them, then do in moderation (both weed and harder drugs).
|
Never understood how people say they "Don't like alcohol."
You are aware that the spectrum of alcohol is quite diverse, yes?

A lot of people here are joking about him not doing drugs only because he doesn't have money, but in general its a pretty good reason. How many wealthy kids do you know that are avid tokers? Maybe they do something harder cuz they have cash to blow on the experience. See what I am saying, a lot of people, if they had a ton of time on their hands and lots of money, end up becoming druggies. I go to a wealthy private school, my parents are both doctors and tried their asses off to get me the education and life that they want me to, this means that a lot of my friends, who have less self-discipline and more free time than I do, do drugs to take up that time.

Doing drugs and lack of discipline have no relation.
A lot of people make perfectly conscious choices on doing drugs. Suggesting that it is lack of discipline is that all people who drugs secretly don't want to do them, but lack the strength to resist.

Don't mock em till you try em. Everyone is different, I recently realised after 2 years of smoking weed(heavily) each day I could not handle it. Since moving houses I've rolled up a few joints and enjoyed them so much more but I never want to go back to how I was a few months ago
The point is, if you don't try you won't know.
Alcohol is purely social, not to mention it's about the greatest thing after a hard days work to knock down a few beers and laugh off all the stress that work causes with some friends.
MODERATION MODERATION MODERATION. We are here to live, not to live to 150 years old. Enjoy yourself, but accept the fact that these intoxicants can do damage.

Should have been one sentence. "I don't really want to".

pot is expensive? if your a light weight to beer i cant wait to see what some dirt reggie will do to you... 5 dollars a gram btw which is like 3 bowls, a blunt, or 2 joints.
The more you know...
EDIT: Im sorry but i cant get over the fact you think drugs are expensive... i mean what are you buying, coke? the only thing cheaper than weed is crack...

I have the same issue with going red, and sometimes too breaking out in blotches and 'hives' all over my face and body. Its never really stopped me from drinking before though.
