Hey guys,
given some added free-time in the next few weeks, I'd love to play some games.
One of them I've played before, two of them I don't yet know.
1. Shooter
I remember playing a very old WW2-shooter, but for the life of me, I don't remember its name.
Unlike Wolfenstein, it has no fantasy-elements. Basically, you visit all the popular scenes of WWII, shoot Nazis and Japs, infiltrate places, you know the drill. Its extremely straight forward, not particularly hard and the gameplay is incredibly fluid and simply fun.
I tried googling, but it's not "American Army", nor any of the twenty Call of Duty games.
Nor is it battlefield, it's not team based.
I haven't played any shooters since, but I remember enjoying that one particularly.

2. Chess game
I miss playing chess a lot, and since the guys I used to played live far away now, I'm looking for a brilliant chess computer that uses the ELO-system, gives me opponents according to my ability (like the Blizzard ladder, except I want to play only AI for now).
Educational functions like move-suggestions and analysis would be most welcome as well.
3. RPG
This is a hard one and I'd be surprised if we'd manage to figure that one out together.
Basically, I want a 2D offline WoW with different "Endgame" content.
I've prepared a little catalogue of things I'd like to have and I'll just choose the RPG that has most of them.
Very important:
[_]low hardware-requirements (Diablo 3 is on the edge) ***
[_]Fast-Paced combat, real time ***
[_]Noticable character-development, skill trees ***
[_]offline
Quite important:
[_]open world, no constant dialogues

RPG-Games I've already played through and liked:
Diablo 2, Secret of Mana, Sacred, Dungeon Siege, Torchlight 1, Diablo 3 (kind of liked), WoW
Secret of Evermore, Chrono-Trigger, Final Fantasy 4-7, Kingdoms of Amalur
Risen, Witcher, Skyrim and the like fall out of consideration due to my computer.
Kingdoms of Amalur was awesome, but it had many bugs and didn't run all too fluently on my machine.

For RPG I suggest The Bastion. It's kinda 2D cell-shady, very beautiful and has all your very important points.
I don't know much about chess but I recently discovered ChessNetwork on Youtube. Maybe you can look into where he plays his games. It looks decent.
Shooter could be anything. Maybe medal of honor, I don't really know.

Really got a feeling the first is a Medal of honor game, That was the shit when I was young such a nice game,
Afraid that Your'e gonna have to update your computer because all new games nowdays require a decent high end pc.

Man, if you want another old WW2 game, try Hidden & Dangerous. It can be played in first-person or third-person views, you control up to 4 characters.
Have you ever played Rogue Spear? It's the same idea but in WW2. I had LOOOOOOADS of fun playing Rainbow Six and Hidden & Dangerous back then, so many good memories

omg rainbow six was sooooo goood back in the days, still remember playing it at a friends place. we had so much fun with it!

Did you know that if you re-arranged the letters in Medal Of Honor: Allied Assault (MOHAA) it becomes Omaha, where the first scene takes place? It's either brilliant thinking, or just a lucky coincidence.
I would recommend Bastion as well, it's really a great game, but there are some things you should know: The world isn't that "open", as in you must follow the maps in (at least often) a specific order. However, the music is GODLY and the storytelling's pretty decent too.
The combat is fast-paced as well as in real-time. There's not really any skill "trees" per se, but you can customize your characters special attack, weapons etc. as well as upgrade them, so it's got some sort of a skill system.
I got it from the Humble Indie Bundle a few weeks back, and thoroughly loved it. So yeah, Bastion is a good game. I recommend you give it a go. Be prepared to lose many hours to it, though

I also recommend Bastion. You'll have a ton of fun with it. Only downside for you, it doesn't have proffesions/smithing(but you can upgrade your weapons via the tree system).
Now grant me your power detectives.
It was a first person shooter/rpg(?). Around 2002-2004 I think. It had a fantasy setting and a bit of modern technology as well. I remember there were 4 or 5 different worlds you could travel around. You could shoot magic stuff from your hands. That's all I remember, Q_Q.
edit: oh and it was singleplayer.
edit: i think the enemies were all some sort of demon.

Hvae you tried Skyrim? It actaully ran surprisingly well on my laptop. My laptop run Diablo 3 on edege aswell. Single player D3 is not a problem on lowest but with 3 or more players its just burns up... I would suggest trying out Skyrim on lower settings... It might work and it fits your needs...

If you like the older Final Fantasy games, you should give the, arguably better, Dragon Warrior (Dragon Quest) games a shot. The first three are very good on the nes, but you should try to nab the SNES or Gameboy Advance versions of the first two as they are less punishing and have some very annoying elements fixed.

Perhaps something like Planescape: Torment, or Baldur's Gate would suit you. Both are fantastic RPGs, and will run on any system still around today.

The main issue IMHO with the Chessmaster software is that while it does a good job with analysis and education move suggestion, actually playing against it as a beginner/amateur is a frustrating experience because of the way it simulates low-level AI opponents. Namely, it makes a whole string of GM-strength moves with one utterly bizarre obvious mistake thrown in the middle... No human plays like that.

I never used cheats in games because I was a computer illiterate back then.
If I recally correctly I reached that place when your airplane lands and they camouflage the airplane near a river. The germans were coming to our location from the nearby forest with hundreds of infantry and dozens of tanks and bikes and we had to hold that place for a period of time (I think we had to wait for an air strike or something). It had some kind of hut we could take cover, and some rocks.
Hundreds of nazis + bikes + tanks vs 4 brave men. Unfortunately the game would always freeze after some time on that specific stage... so I never completed the game 
My favorite character was Captain Stirling, I think he was british. If he died during a stage, I would restart :d

I prefer morrowind. And morrowind is less frustrating than Gothic 3 because Gothic 3 crashes every 5 seconds.

For the RPG: Ultima VII: Black Gate. It's old, very old (1991) but you can play it using Exult. It has an open ended world for you to explore, a non-linear quest and multiple alternate endings. It's my favourite game of all time. Still playable now, I played it a year ago right to completion. And if you like it there's also Ultima VII: The Serpent Isle.
Also try Morrowind 2011 if you're into the Elder Scrolls series. Doesn't have that terrible skill system that Oblivion did (with mods and addons). Morrowind 2011 is a collection of add-ons which modernise the game for newer computers.

And I also second the guy who said Baldur's Gate. You have to play it and Baldur's Gate II as well. If you're looking for something more modern then I actually enjoyed Neverwinter Nights 2.
