This was posted on a Chinese forum. Thought it was kind of interesting, even though I wasn't around during the Brood War era.

Nostalgia. It's the sentimental longing for the beautiful things in our lives which have past. It's a powerful emotion, since it is impossible for most of those memories and things to be reproduced. For some reason, the past always feels more beautiful than the present. I guess we just can't help but beautify our memories as we reminisce about the past. It's a simple and innocent emotion. It's the precious memories which we all hold dear to us.

But history cannot be repeated, classics cannot be replicated. The cruel wheel of time rolls on, second after second. While we cherish the memories of the past, we also have to face reality. Reality is harsh, and strikes at our emotions, and those who can't accept this choose nostalgia as a way of self-release.

Nada retires.

Brood War is a classic, and classics become classics due to their nature of being random, unpredictable, and irreplicable. Through the hands of Blizzard, the game of Starcraft was created, and it has brought to us players like Boxer and Yellow, and also players like Flash, Bisu, Savior, and Jaedong. These players are like the shining stars in the vast and magnificent galaxy, and will forever shine brightly in the hearts of the fans.

At the same time, I also want to thank Starcraft 2. It continues the writing of this epic, and even though it might not be that perfect yet, it continues writing it and working on it. It needs time to be able to follow in the footsteps of the heritage of its predecessor, and while doing that, it has also extended the professional careers of pro-gamers.

If not for Starcraft 2, we may never have had the chance of seeing Boxer make it to the main stage once again. We might also see players like Stork fade away from the scene very soon. Perhaps, in the near future, Taek–Bang–Lee–Ssang might all be eliminated from the scene by other competitors due to their age. The Starcraft series, as the true blue real time strategy game representative in eSports, should be a game which allows the true essence of real time strategy games - intelligence to shine through.

After all the players left for the day, one remained to practice. Boxer.

After a prolonged period of observation, I am delighted to see the players in SPL progress in Starcraft 2 at an alarming rate. At its current stage though, most players are still repeatedly using the relatively simpler all-in strategies due to the lack of training time. Yet sometimes, you see players like Rain from SKT1 who are amazing at the late game, and that really makes me marvel.

Exciting and memorable games are also starting to show up. The amazing macro perspectives of the game, the impeccable assessments and judgements of late game situations, and the uncanny ability to choose the best option of getting out of dire situations of the Brood War players in the games make me feel that Starcraft 2 is really a game with depth, depths that can be and deserve to be uncovered. It's not a shallow game.

In the not-so-distant future, we would perhaps be able to see Jangbi against MC to see who has the sharper zealot blades; or Jaedong against DongRaeGu to see who has the greater macro skills; or Flash against MarineKing to see who has the better micro; or Fantasy against MMA to see who has the more harassing drops.

Are you looking forward to it? I sure am.

Bullshit stork will be up there till his 30s BOXER said it himself, so it will happen

And about whole "article" its pretty lackluster, few cheesy 1 liners that everyone spoke already million times ("oh i want to see JD vs Nestea/DRD, oh i want to see Flash vs X etc"). I was hoping for some good premise of generation's passing. But it was simple observations and/or opinions.

Ah okk haha. Thanks for the comment Guess it was interesting to me coz it was kind of the first time the thought of having BW pros vs SC2 pros really crossed my mind.

Well it was pretty popular topic back in 2011 when both Elephant topic and kespa switch rumors hit the fan.

Oh yea I guess that's true too, so I probably have thought of it. It just seems more real now since we are nearer to the time when a full switch to SC2 is going to take place.

That pic of Tossgirl (its pretty popular) always makes me tingle
Stork retire? SIF! He, Bisu, Flash and Jaedong will always rule the starcraft world! bwhahaha..(tho i long for a Jaedong vs Flash game as epic and intense of those two years back...)
*yeah i guess fantasy and jangbi can stand beside them

edit: i really do think Flash and the high tier bw players will catch up and pass the current sc2 pros, when they really get down to it, they are amazing players mechanically and have such good work ethics its hard to see them NOT doing well.
Also Flash is a pretty modest guy (he's the one thats consider as the "best player ever" the most) So when he said like 2 years? to catch up to where is he in bw (which is the VERY top) he probaby can do in less
dAPhREAk gives Shock a * | [23:55] <Shock710> that was out of context -_- [16:26] <@motbob> Good question, Shock!

Looking forward to seeing them? Maybe.
Looking forward to their SC2 games? Not one bit. I will follow their game results for a short while. The game is horrifically boring and unwatchable.

Lmao, very pro sc2 article and the all so present argument of nostalgia.
You mean ESPORTS isnt a synonym for SC2? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ -Proud owner of a Filco Majestouch 2 with Cherry Blue Switches- BW or SC2? Why not both?

Sorry :D
Micro at its best is like an elegant dance between two people trying to achieve a similar end.

It's not nostalgia when one of the greatest PvZ series ever happened this week.

People have been saying this hogwash for the past 3 years. And all while this was going on, we've had one of the best Starleague finals, one of the best Proleague finals, Kim Carrier crying while casting and countless other things.

Man, do you remember all the way back when Jangbi played Zero in one of the most amazing PvZ series of all time? The nostalgia man.... it's unbearable!
