BrokeN / Marquis: I write music, play videogames, combine the two and try to have as much fun as possible doing so.
n00bish background:
There's no real need to go into 'my life' or anything, as it's not very interesting... and I'm an unknown 20 year old; but gaming history is another thing and actually relevant (I think...). I grew up playing WarCraft 3, Age of Empires, and Civilization 3; casually from a young age. I was mostly into RPGs, WoW and the occasional FPS. Through my WoW guild, I met and befriended two (and a half) Diamond+ league players who slowly dragged me back into SC2, which I had played since it's release and unfortunately dropped. But now I'm back, and serious about learning and wanting to get better.
My Goal / What I do!
I've been in Bronze for three seasons now, more out of not prioritizing StarCraft then anything... and I'm tired of it. I ground out 600-something points to reach top 25 in my ladder and was slightly favoured over silver players, so I have to be close! I have two accounts (back from before I quit, was on the edge of falling in love with the game but had no reason to connect), one of which is my main (Marquis, Protoss!) and the other is just for fun (BrokeN, Random!).
I digress, my goal is to stream myself and occasionally friends as I work at getting better, not only in Starcraft 2 but also in League of Legends. I'd love to get up to Masters at the very least as well as play in amateur tournaments, and I'm not afraid to work at it. The plan for my stream/youtube channel is to be centered around general improvement, both musically and gamingly (Yes, I'm aware it's not a word ), with the focus being split 50/50 between the two (music and games). I might even randomly play music live!
All in all, there's no real reason for anyone to pay attention to me, but if you feel like joining me on my own little journey I'd love to have you! Whether it be as a practice partner or someone who watches and critiques my play, anything and everything is welcome.
Oh, and if you want to add me on my 'Main' SC2 account, it's Marquis (character code: 432); whereas BrokeN (my just-for-fun account) you can add me via the battletag system@ Phobophile#1462.

Welcome to Team Liquid!
Our goals seem pretty similar I know I'll never be a pro, and probably wouldn't want that life even if I could have it, but I'd like to get to Masters and be able to get through a few rounds in the Playhems and such. I'm not a great player (Platinum) but if you want any help, feel free to add me. (If interested, PM me for my character code.) You've already taken the two biggest steps, which is A) Discovering this site, B) Committing to improve. The third step is very simple: Play. Play games. At your level (Hell, at my level) the best way to improve is to build your mechanics. The best way to build your mechanics is through really boring training against the Very Easy AI. The second-best way to build your mechanics is to just ladder. Most people would prefer the former, including me
So get a build for each race. All-in or macro. It doesn't matter. As long as you don't hardcore cheese, like cannon rushes or proxy gates, you'll be learning. Even 1-base all-ins are fine at your stage of development, especially in PvP. (If you learn to 4-gate well, you'll win most of your PvP's for a long time. But it's a lot harder to hit the timings than it would seem.) And then: Play. Just mass up those games, and you'll be moving up the leagues in no time.

I usually warm up by playing against hard or very hard random AI, and concentrating on my mechanics. I had known about teamliquid.net for a while, but was kind of nervous about joining (see below, how I've already made myself look like an idiot, hah!) as I usually have a tendancy to do/be/act like on forums for the first little while. I'm really glad, and feel fortunate to have, two accounts to play with/on... As I can concentrate and try to win on one (Marquis has 60.5% win rate, with current match history) and goof off with the other, but still be able to concentrate on mechanics regardless.
When it comes down to build, I tend towards a three gate+robo (in my own bronze-ish level way and understanding) and am heavily into macro play. I honestly can't say that I've ever cheesed anyone, though I've certainly got upset over it when I've scouted it coming but still couldn't stop it.
PvP seems to be the match that I hate the absolute most, which is in part why I came to this site, to learn. I have a basic understanding of how to win against terran and zerg, but if I'm not cannon rushed immediately and am allowed to macro, I'm able to just throw immortal/sentry/stalkers at them until they gg! As much as I want to be promoted and rank up, I'm honestly nervous about it moreso because I'm not sure I feel ready. I started only building colossus out of the robo, then switched to only building immortal... now I have a tendancy to build both if I'm against Zerg or Terran... And... I never build air. Ever. Or either of the templars. Which I know is a bad thing.

But... But... But... Day[9]... Yeah, I feel like a dunce, and I'm not pleading ignorance because I actually did read all of the commandments... when I signed up a few weeks ago. I can't believe that I forgot about that one line. Really it skipped my mind because I was watching Day[9] Daily #269 earlier today, which was about how get into SC2, and he says around the 12 minute mark to go and create a blog on TL.net (which, I did apparently ). Once again, not pleading ignorance, and thank you for the welcome regardless... I'm going to go shuffle to the corner with my pointy cap now. Go figure that I have no issues with any of the commandments as I'm fairly manner 95% of the time... So as my profile image goes... *facepaw*.
I'm off to go post on the commandments page, and pray to TL they forgive me (no sarcasm, honest!). From there I'll probably go goof off in SC2! Feel free to add/poke me in game :D :3 ^_^
