SUPER EXCITED! I'm going to be seeing my favorite band of all time THRICE along with my new favorite band and guitarist Animals As Leaders/Tosin Abasi! I will be providing a review of the show after I witness it tonight. I'm REALLY excited to see AAL/Tosin live as he is an absolute maniac on the guitar and is my main inspiration at the moment. Because of him I've picked up a decent 8 string guitar and I'll be spending my time taking what hes done and making it my own as best I can. For a sampling of what someone with classical, jazz, and metal shred techniques can do with an extended range guitar, have a look at some of Tosin's youtube stuff.
I just realized, posting some Thrice stuff would be good idea as well for those out there who haven't heard of them. They are amazing and the evolution their sound went through the past decade or so is incredible. I'll try and provide some songs that demonstrate the contrast

I went to that show in Utah... The opening band was actually quite good, though I forget their name. Animals as leaders was superb, and Thrice... well I'm not a fan... it's like they couldn't make up their minds on what genre they wanted to be, so they just half ass everything instead. :\

Went to the VA show, was pretty fun. Thrice did great and played a ton of goodies, AAL made my ears bleed in only the best of ways, and I have no idea about the first band. Wasn't really paying attention.

Animals as Leaders returned home from their tour only to find out a car and bunch of equipment was stolen from them while they were gone

Tosin Abasi is the new steve vai. Or at least I hope he doesn't end up just another shredding machine and keeps this awesome weirdly melodic groove he has atm.
