Rhetorical Questions.

Seriously though, if you want to prove a point do not ask a question if you intend to answer it yourself.
Don't ask me something and then before allowing me to respond to what could be the start of a wonderful discussion assume what I will say/do/respond whatever and then rabble on based off of this self-question which you seem to be speaking as if I have answered for you.

Rhetorical questions are questions that need not be answered. They are not answered by the speaker.

Know what I dislike? People that don't read the dictionary enough.

No-one expects you to answer a rhetorical question. The speaker wants to explore possible answers to it, not listen to your specific answer.

Instead of being upset about not getting to answer it, you should shut up and listen.

What I actually hate about rhetorical questions is when people use them in lieu of actually making a point or an argument. It hate it when they just throw it out in response to something as if the rhetorical question actually said something of value.

I think most children's least favorite rhetorical question is heard when they're being scolded: "How many times have I told you not to do X?" ...Wait, so I was supposed to keep track? Shit x.x Why are you getting angrier, mom? The answer wasn't thirty? Was it forty?

Don't treat a rhetorical question as though it is needed to answered. You will be a much happier person, I promise. They are generally used in a way to stimulate discussion, or as a way to begin an argument. Sometimes the best way to get through to someone is by using their own mind against them, instead of telling them words.
