Was going home one night and i noticed something unusual on a local church noticeboard. + Show Spoiler + + Show Spoiler +
I don't know how to say it, but my conscience is telling me that that is just not right. And yes, this is real, no photoshop or any modifications.
And on another topic, lately i have considered switching to lol. I haven't played it but i do play dota so i have a rough idea of what goes on. It all started a while ago, when i heard of dota 2 beta. At that time, i did not have the beta key but i really wanted to play it. I wanted to see what it was like and so i occasionally watched games on youtube.
One day, there was a huge dota 2 tournament where the best teams around the world gathered to play each other. I was really interested in it (thinking china vs foreigners, because that is the case in the dota scene, and russians). In the chat, people would sometimes mention lol (at that time, i only first heard about it from those guys in chat) and how it is inferior to dota 2 and will soon die off once dota 2 is released. I did a google search on lol, it was like dota, but different heroes and items.
Coincidently, there was a lol tournament going on at the same time. Dota 2 had mutiple streams on at that time, the one with the highest viewers was around 9800 viewers (OVER 9000!!!) with the second highest stream having around 4000 and the other streams ranging from 100~2000. I was quite impressed, thinking of it as a potential rival to sc2. Coincidently at that time, a lol tournament was streaming as well. Unlike dota 2, it only had one stream. Poor lol, i thought. What a bad time to have a tournament. I thought of how humiliating it must have been for the lol tournament to get owned by dota 2 as i moved my mouse pointer over to the lol stream link.
My mouse pointer was on the link, but i didn't click, because i wanted to see the number of viewers. 1 second passed, and viewer number comes up Twitch.tv, 220,000 In my mind: + Show Spoiler + WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!WTF?!
I was sooooo confused. Where did this popularity come from? And this many viewers at the same time dota 2 was on? The reality was so hard to accept. It's like i've been hit by a truck. Of course now i realise lol is popular, but back then, it was like finding an alien. I turned off the stream, and the computer, and leaned back on my chair, staring at the roof, thinking about what i had just seen. I knew it was the truth, but i just couldn't accept it. I don't know why, but i just couldn't.
After some time had passed, I found out that ogn was having a lol tournament. Now that was really suprising (because i did not know moba was that popular, and even if it was, there is already a korean made dota clone) but i wasn't stunned or anything like that. What was even more suprising is that the foreign teams that were invited to the tournament, where knocked out. I thought they would at least go to the finals, if not win it all. Because moba is a foreigner's thing. It's what foreigners do best, second to chinese people of course, and russians.
So when i get some free time, i will start playing lol and if i like it enough, i might switch over.

I started to play LoL instead of SC2 for a mjority of time, invested quite a lot of money into it aswell, even joined a team, the simple fact is you'll probablly end up with the mindset to kill someone after every 5 games or so.
The community on that game is HORRIFIC and it's incredibly hard to make it into high level competitive teams etc.
Honestly, SC2 is a much better competitive game from most standpoints, and if you think you want to switch because you get frustrated in ladder, boy you'll be in for a shock switching to LoL. With the viewer thing, it's to be expected, it's a free to play game, so it's easier to get into than SC2 and ALSO it's pretty dumbed down in general skill level, you can have around 50apm and be a good player cause all it is, mechanics.

You come across as a pretty hardcore bandwagoner tbh. Do you just play whatever has the highest viewer numbers on twitch? Just play the game you like more

lol has the stream embedded into the client so stream numbers are higher than the actual number of viewers
lol's pretty popular if that's what you're looking for, but it takes a lot of time and/or money to unlock stuff so you can actually play all the heroes properly. it's a fun game in it's own right but i'm not really a big fan
it's not like dota's obscure or anything though; the international topped 300k (concurrent) on the english stream alone, and 1.5mil+ across all streams. the recent ecal showmatch managed to net ~1.5mil unique views (not concurrent but still pretty impressive)
anyways popularity does not necessarily equate to quality and u could've installed lol and played a game or installed wc3 and played a game instead of making this post and saved both of us 20 minutes

Both games are time consuming (1 game = around 50 minutes), so i will only play one or the other, but i do want to play both if lol is fun as it seems.

Why do people keep saying that? Is it fun dishing out mis-information just because you dislike a game? The stream is NOT embedded into the client (meaning that if you log in, you don't count as a viewer), but you can use it easily to ACCESS the stream if you want to.
But yeah, LoL is fun. I've been on both Dota 2 beta and LoL for awhile now. Personally I really like the mastery / rune page system that LoL has, gives so much more customization and possibilities on making different heroes ''your own''. Something that doesn't exist at all in Dota.
But in the end, it's a matter of preference. LoL and Dota, allthough the idea is the same, both games play out entirely differently. Some people prefer Dota over LoL, other vice-versa. For me, the dealbreaker was the rune / mastery system which is why I spend more time on LoL.
Try them both out if possible, and make your pick. Getting into LoL takes longer though since you won't be ''100%'' untill you reach level 30.
EDIT: Also to add, I think the average LoL game is actually quite a bit shorter then the average Dota game. I think it's mentioned somewhere that the average LoL game is about 30-40 minutes, while Dota games tend to be 40-60 minutes.
This is due to many reasons such as LoL having the surrender vote option and that the map is smaller. The surrender option is also somethinig you might want to think about, since sometimes it's a blessing, sometimes it's a curse. Though it tends be the former in my experience.

just wait till Dota 2 gets full released and honestly don't get jeolous of LoL because they're all noobs. 95% of the people who are even slightly competitive will move to Dota.

lol is really popular in korea so i would go with that.
