I still miss my dog after 8 years, I think it took me about 3 years to really stop feeling teary sad. RIP.

We're lucky to have had them. Many people don't ever really get to experience that connection with an animal. I'll never forget all those nights as a kid, staying up late watching TV, my buddy sprawled out next to me, his chin resting on my thigh. I'll never forget all his silly idiosyncrasies, like how he would swing his face into closed doors to check and see if they were closed tight or how when we'd walk down a crowded sidewalk, he'd casually try to give a single lick to people's hands as he passed them by. Most of the time they didn't even realize what had happened.

I think most of all I'll remember how much I hurt when he got cancer, and how that pain, in the end, validated everything between us, and what he meant to me.

Sorry for your loss. We lost our dog about 5 years ago and I still miss him big time.
