I came to TeamLiquid from Starcraft II, as did many others.
I played Starcraft I and Brood War as a child but didn't think there was anything like a Pro Scene.
In between reading SC2 General and Strategy, I occasionally browsed through the Brood War general forums. I started seeing names such as Flash, Bisu, Jaedong. SC2 didnt have big names like that yet. Hell, I'm willing to argue that SC2 STILL doesn't have players with that much weight to their names.
Eventually, I started to browse BW General a lot more and SC Strategy a little less and figured it was time to watch my first BW game. IIRC it was Jaedong vs Grape @ ABC MART MSL. So I've been watching BW for the last 11 months.
I've been doing all my research via liquipedia and TL forums, researching about the bonjwas, big players, tournaments rivalries, found myself a favorite team etc etc and it's been enjoyable.
I watched nanashin's live stream for the Jin Air OSL Finals between Jangbi and Fantasy and for every match, I was screaming at my screen "OMGGGGGGG" or "OH NOOOOOOO". I never got this excited about SC2 matches. In the ceremony with Jangbi kissing the trophy, I felt a great warmth within me - this is what other's have been watching for years? This is what I've been missing out on? It was so good - so beautiful.
Fast forward to the last few months and we've seen teams disband...MBCGame Heroes, WeMadeFox and Hwaseung Oz... and we've seen talks of "Beginning of the end for BW or BW Pros switching to SCII." A part of me felt "awesome, I can't wait to see Flash Jaedong and Bisu play SC2!" but the other part of me felt "it can't be finished already...I've only started to enjoy it..i'm not ready for this switch."
ProLeague was awesome as well. I wanted CJ Entus to win but when they lost, I wanted SKT1 to win. The finals were awesome. Every game besides Ssak vs Crazy-Hydra was good.
And now with the KESPA-BLIZZ-GOM conference going underway, it's really going to happen.
Been around since 2008 lurking around stealing build orders from last shadow ... and yet I didn't regret watching broodwar . No game makes me sweat like I was in a sauna like broodwar did, sc2 ? meh No sweat at all pretty much a watered down version of broodwar . I don't get excited at all when I play sc2, unit's and the graphics are pretty much bland in my opinion .
Broodwar will always be in my heart .... this is the last time broodwar will be able to shine in the next proleague season than it's over.
Also didn't you know that broodwar music still kick ass after like 14 years already ? take that sc2....

Haha, I listen to Red Alert 2 music. And Rise of Nations music. And Age of Empires: Rise of Rome music.
Heck, I have this huge playlist of random stuff that I listen to. Other games had good music too.
But anyways, I too am sad that BW is coming to an end just as I begin following it seriously. I've seen a lot of good games, though there were also a few that weren't so great. I hope this transition to SC2 is successful and the game improves a lot as a result.
We are not ready to let go because SC2 is not ready to take BW's place. In fact, SC2 is so far from that... doubt it will ever get there.
Last SPL finals was so fucking good man, really EPIC, especially Fantasy vs Flash game, what a game, that was intense from beginning to end, and then Bisu vs Flash ace match, truly an EPIC game, thats what BW is really, a truly EPIC game.
And now it's all gone. Replaced by a half-finished try-hard sequel.
Mayans have predicted it correctly, world ends in 2012.
I guess that there's a lot of us then, that just can't move on. It reminds me a lot of the movie 5 Centimeters Per Second where the main character struggles about letting go of his childhood love. T___T

Actually sc2 has a great potential to be good if Blizzard wasn't so keen on patching every unit that they don't feel it's "E-SPORTS" worthy . Seriously let us play the game and let us deal with the imbalance okay ? stop waving your magic wand and expect to solve everything by patching .

I bet she could beat some current SC2 pros after some practice, but somehow it feels like she would most likely retire and do something else.
I think the same can be said for a lot pros. In several of the rumors articles floating around, there was a distinct worry from coaches and organizers that the transition will have tons of attrition as there might be a big retirement wave from those who do not wish to continue their career with SC2. Maybe the merge with the GOM scene will at least mitigate some of this loss, but it's still a loss nonetheless.

Toss girl if she ever becomes an actor or goes modelling I will be her happiest fan boy . ^_^ She is too pretty not to be in the entertainment industry. I think to be realistic she will probably play sc2 and if she feels she is okay with it probably continue or like January find a bf and get married .

Referring to sundance saying ' a new age of that game(those games) is on the Horizon...
Definitely my fondest memories of StarCraft are exclusively BW. Nothing matches the drama and storylines of the OSL. Even the most recent BW games have been as dramatic as they were for me 5 years ago when I started watching.
I never grew up with Broodwar. I was 6 when I picked up Warcraft 3, then I wouldn't know about a pro scene until about a year into playing Starcraft 2.
I won't ever experience the passion that is Broodwar, but so far I feel great excitement over well played SC2 matches and I get the rush of adrenaline when I play by myself on the ladder.
It is better to have loved once, than to never have loved at all. Appreciate that it did happen rather than lament that it is over.
At the very least, i held a Proleague finals party at my house with some friends. Gave my friends the opportunity to experience it, whether they enjoyed it or not, dunno but i always wanted to do it anyway.
I am not looking forward to the day it dies, but it seems inevitable at this point.
