I intend to blow up their headquarters very soon.
I opened iTunes while playing a game of Starcraft today. Something came up about the terms of service, I quickly alt+tab because I had to make SCVs... And the terms of services thing popped up over SC2 so I quickly hit the decline button.
I make my supplies and my SCVs, alt+tab to my desktop, open iTunes again and this time I click agree and that do I see ?
My entire library erased.
WHAT. IN. THE. FUCK.
Not a single song on there. Not a single of my 5 carefully arranged and perfectly crafted playlists containing 5k+ songs each.
Now I know what you're going to say... Derpy derp, eeehhh, just re-add your music derp...
NO. NOOOOOOOOO. I have like 2TBs of music, there was some life changing music in there, some songs that maintained me alive, while some I don't like anymore and some I can only stand sometimes, when in the right mood. My iPod only can hold 32GB of music. DO YOU UNDERSTAND HOW MUCH boxes I will have to un-check or check ???!!!
Solution: I'm going to fill up my car with explosives and blow up their HQs.
Don't buy Apple stocks.

...So pp and read the terms of service?

That sucks man.
I had a semester's worth of recorded lectures on my iPhone and accidently synced on another computer. All my recordings, music, textbooks, etc were gone. Spent hours cursing Apple for ruining my life and then realised I could go back to my "main" iTunes and restore from backup.
Man was I lucky.

I don't even know what to do now, I'm just staring at my screen. It's like my life was erased and I have to start over from scratch.
Can I reboot my PC to a previous date, I don't remember how it's called but you do that when you get viruses sometimes, you know, anyone knows if I can do something like that ?
Help.
|
I'm sorry, you really do have my sympathy.

4 Stars :D You lose one for not carrying through with your plans!
Lol. Turn everything apple off. Itunes, startup services, startup programs, automatic syncing, and do it all yourself. Sync only when you need to. It's not like windows security where delaying a security update by two weeks makes the update useless.
And it's not like you never remember to sync. As long as you have your ipod and computer I find it easy to remember to do when I have free time.

Help. What you are thinking about is probably System Restore, and that should only revert Operating System data. Unless you made a backup of your actual user data (normally not done automatically afaik), that's not gonna help. Maybe itunes has some backup function, I don't know.
|
Itunes does have backups for the ipod. Like if you delete things on your ipod you can restore it back, but if you delete your music library then I'm not sure.
Are you sure you deleted the songs and not just the library that itunes makes to index your collection?
Be careful not to wipe out the stuff on your ipod too.

Yeah man that's what I've always done, this isn't even a sync related issue, I just opened the damn thing and boom, no more.

Wait you still have all your files? I actually had deleted everything and had to re-buy/re-import CDs at one point. Maybe I should make a blog to reminicse on that time.

Forget the whole "I'm an apple just to be against windows" and vice versa...
Apple cost for most of its products are just absurd for what you're really getting. Really no point to buy them unless you're like a singer or artist and use an Imac for that... Just my opinion of course though.

Ya apple are shitheads, wouldn't list my itouch as stolen because i didn't register it with them apparently even though i asked amazon to help me out, and i bought some apps for my apple account. Stupid assholes don't give a flying fuck about their customers, their support is straight up crap. I am never EVER buying anything apple again...

I have a PC and a mac. I love both my self-made desktop my Macbook Air. I don't use iTunes though. I guess the price for performance feature makes you a hater on all current "ultrabooks" (not really since they're not under 850 or whatever really low price intel's spec requires) regardless of OS, but I think my money was well spent on my Air. holy off topic batman
system restore / time machine didn't fix this?

I think your playlists are still saved in the iTunes files, correct me if I'm wrong.

Regardless of what you think of other Apple stuff, it's universally true that iTunes is an abomination that should've never seen the light of day.
|
I would suggest using foobar2000 for your new music player. Trust me.
|
|
Adding those last 2 lines only makes it seem more probable that you're actually gonna do it buddy.
|
I was gonna suggest foobar, but it already happened. darn.
|
I actually like iTunes for playing music. Its simple, and syncs to my iphone.
|
Did you buy all that music?
|
that happened to me too, my song got all deleted. I was like what the fudge apple? So now, im using grooveshark from internet rather than just using itunes -_-

Same thing happened to me not all that long ago.
My entire library, gone in a flash for seemingly no reason.

apple is shit. one time i saw that someone had bought a bunch of free apps on my account that were in chinese, and then one was $20 (was getting free apps because i never keep CC's on my acct, but i think i had a giftcard) and i never found out about it until like 6 months later.
so i look on the internet and it seems that multiple times they've been hacked and people's accounts have been assessed, and i've NEVER been keylogged or hacked or anything!
so i call them up and tell them what happened, but guess what? they said "no one has ever hacked our customers accounts" when i was READING MULTIPLE ARTICLES ABOUT IT! they didn't give me back my $20, fuck them.
|
I can empathise. About two years ago, both my laptop's and MP3 player's hard drives failed within a few days of each other, and I lost about 5,000 songs.
As a few people have said now, foobar2000 is a significantly better media player for your computer. And there are alternatives to iTunes as far as transferring to your iPod goes, as well (or you could replace the iPod with something else :D). iTunes really is an evil hell-spawn of a program.

At least all of the files are still there. Not ideal I know, but it could be worse.
I only have one apple product (a first-gen nano)... I've never had the desire to get an iTouch or iPhone. The only apple product I would maybe buy is a new iPod with more memory (4gb on nano =/ ).

Goodness, apple users. I'm sure all along you've had friends who've told you to stay away from Apple products, and explained at great length why they suck. You, being naive, responded with the typical "but dood, it's so ez you just plug it in and it works!!!". At which point your friend explained in depth about how Apple's closed platform development style and authoritarian control over their products in fact held the platform back and held you at their mercy. Though, you probably didn't hear any of this as during that time you were staring intently at your iPod getting all hot and bothered because it was so pretty and hipster. Though, noting your friend had stopped talking you realized you needed to respond in some way, so you gave the regular "but dewd, my apple can't get viruses and stuff, and it's soo ez I just plug it in and it werks dewd!!!". At which point your friend decided you had either become a total hipster-wannabe, or perhaps you had contracted some form of temporary insanity; either way he was resolved to leave you to your fate, and is probably laughing his butt off right now.
Btw, can you imagine if Steam regularly asked for to accept new terms of service and if you declined, it just wiped out all your games? lol
|
Try recovering your data. http://www.piriform.com/recuva is a really good one, I'm not sure if your on Mac or Windows but im 100% sure they you can recover majority of your deleted files if you haven't overwritten the files with anything else yet.
This will save you, and msg me if you need any more help.
edit: nvm you still have the files, misread, assumed this from "entire library was erased"
|
Foobar > iTunes Library anyday Also, isn't there a file where you saved for your lists?
|
God I absolutely hate Apple. I have stayed away from their products for about three years now, and I have never looked back. Absolutely wonderful being free from their fucking TOS and their attempts to control all of YOUR use over THEIR products. I am deeply sorry that that happened to you, and I recommend that you take this opportunity to switch to something like MediaMonkey or Foobar. Much more open source and you can ever have addons, so sick
|
It's so strange how extreme people's opinion on Apple is. There are a lot better things to get worked up about in life than your favorite brand of computer/music player/shoes.
|
Waaah, so you got to keep your music after all. You know what sucks? Actually losing your shit. Has happened to me in the past, now I always make backups. You should learn a lesson here.

I had a similar experience except my entire library was actually deleted.

What the fuck kind of imbalance is that
nerf Apple plz
But anyways...foobar it up.

Man that is horrible! I hate it when programs try to force you to give them attention when there is nothing urgent. Like how Windows has a default autoupdater that forces a reboot if you don't change the settings.
|
Yeeeaaah. I learned my lesson a while back and switched to my Android phone and Foobar 2000. Best musical decision of my life!
|
gg lol
did it delete the iTunes Library file too?
music -> itunes
usually my itunes derps out and tells me to find its library file, and i click that and get it all back
|
This pretty much sums up my views on the issue: http://xkcd.com/488/
The world has absolutely gone backwards with respect to music distribution.
|
Songbird has done the exact same thing to me three times.
Fuck you song bird, and fuck you apple.
Winamp has only screwed me over once... maybe I'll try foobar hmmm
|
this hurt my soul
|
Never had any accidents like that, but I too find iTunes too cumbersome to deal with especially when you have hundreds or thousands of files.
What I dislike most about iTunes is that it copies and moves all your files around. I know you can turn that off but it shouldn't happen in the first place. I'm pretty IT savvy, but I don't fully understand iTunes...
|
Could you try a system restore or something?
|
5 stars, just because you're awesome. Oh, and I hate apple.

I whole heartedly endorse the title of this blog, and will live by it for the rest of forever

God, I hate itunes so much. Primary reason I would never get an Ipod.
I strongly recommend foobar2k or mediamonkey if you want set up an elaborate music library.
|
iTunes has always been a PoS, nothing new :/
|
Why would you use iTunes .
Don't buy Apple products for different reasons.

This is starting to get to me. I think I'm going insane. These playlists took me years to make.

You shouldn't be using iTunes in the first place for many, many reasons even though it comes with their product. Don't use it for managing your music. -_-

Apple excels at three things...
1 - The ability to make products that, from a technical standpoint are lacklustre and charge triple what they should cost... And actually sell.

Yes, Apple is quite good for those who are into film/music producing but how could you leave out their customer support?
I've owned several Apple products in my day (relax, they were all just gifts) and have had several issues with their technology, but everytime I had to deal with the company they would send me a box and I'd mail it out only for them to return the latest gadget with very few questions asked.

Most professional video producers use Apple's Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premier. What the specific differences are, I do not know.

To everyone saying not to use iTunes: a quick question
If you have an iTouch, can any other software be used with it? Like can I sync music through winamp or something? Because that is the only reason I use iTunes - my parents got me an iTouch a while back and so now I'm stuck with iTunes
|
I restarted my music library recently. Still have my old itunes library on my laptop with 2500+ songs but it has a bunch of crap I never listen to and I had been using pandora and spotify anyway. Bought a hard drive for my desktop and downloaded foobar2000- started fresh with music I actually listen to in good quality bitrates
Feels good man. I'd just take this opportunity to start over and add music as you want to listen to it. Also, don't reuse itunes and deal with all the extra bullshit they make you install and all the random popups that make you delete your library =)

The Mac equivalent?
Sony Vegas is not first in the realm of video production.
Final Cut Pro is the best editing program in the world. Period.
As far as effects go Adobe After Effects is far superior compared to Vegas.
