Just a random thought before going to sleep. I've seen sooooo many blogs on TL about 'progamer-wannabes' and stuff going "hi i'm diamond/masters/blah blah" and "slumping", "elo drop", "fallen in rank/out of division" and then setting goals like "play a gazillion games and hit top 20 GM".

 Not really a contributing comment...

But I am not playing anymore either!

Played the game till masters, got bored of it and switched to BW. Now a days i just play random 4v4 with my brother. 4v4 is relaxing since you can just derp around all game long as oppose to 1v1

It is more along these lines:"To remind myself I suck"

	 |

It's fun for what it is. Not as fun as BW, but still fun to play.
 Also kona, check PM please.

I only play customs or 4v4 once in awhile , I dropped 1v1s long time ago because I wasn't enjoying it much but I still follow big tournaments as MLG or GSL. I went back to bw 1v1 but don't play often either because I got no time T.T

Stopped playing. Nowhere near as fun as BW ...trying out dota 2 as of now...

Other: I like to spend some time with my friends from broodwar that play sc2. So we play and chat. I do really enjoy sc2 UMS maps (I like very few, but those that i do like, i like even more than broodwar UMS, in im generally more a broodwar fan than a sc2 fan :D).

Before I can start playing SCII, I need to figure out how I'm supposed to collect resources to build units. The system is so unintuitive...
On another note, I have no idea what those shiny blue rocks are for. You know, the ones that are all over every map. Is it some strange, universal form of aesthetics?

Because it was the hot shit when it came out and my friends were into it. But laddering and playing got too stressful and time consuming.

I mainly play it for fun. But remember fun has different definitions, we all have our own ways of having fun when playing SC2. The fun I get is from the process of improving myself. I'll have bad games, and I'll say to myself, "Oh darn I messed up." But if I mess up but do relatively well in other aspects of the game before that then I'm satisfied.

i enjoy learning and improving in all areas, so both fun and to get better.
but mostly cause i don't think i'll ever be decent at BW!

	 |
|

While SC2 is a lot of fun, the fun stems mostly from the thrill I get from playing 1v1 in a competitive situation. And the best way to play competitively is to focus on making yourself a better player, so I picked "Improving myself".

For the sake of beating all those ambitious nerd-kiddos who think they are gonna be gosu next season with the most gimmicky shit play i can come up with.

I generally derive what many consider to be "fun" from winning, I don't enjoy taking part, nor the losing, but the good feel i get from the win is more than the feeling of being annoyed i get from the loss so I just keep playing. Getting to be better than friends that also play the game really does help my cause too :p.

I play sc2 because i enjoy winning over people. I guess you can say i am conceited, when i beat people in games like SC2/Chess i feel superior to them. Not like oh you suck but just like theres a little thought "I am the better strategist HAHA"
This is also why i don't like cheese games, i love long macro games because when i win them, i feel that i had better macro/decision making and i was superior to them. Its honestly something i never told anyone because it just makes me sound like a complete asshole but yeah.

You wouldn't think it if you talked to me, i am a pretty laid back person about winning/losing but since i don't care when i lose games (ironic i know) i can only be happy when i play SC2 (Except losing games when i clearly had the win)

I played SC2 for a couple of months because BW always crashed on my computer. Then BW started working so I stopped playing SC2. Then I realized I just suck dick at RTS and gave up on both games. Now I play DotA all day with cutiepies like Kona <3

Trying to win a game and failing hard then raging and not playing SC2 until the next season so I can play my placement match and then failing that and not playing til next season. It goes on and on in an endless evil circle. T_T

Both for fun and for the competitive aspect. I really like the game, and while I don't ladder that much, I enjoy playing CG's with people that are better than me and participating in low level tournaments Also SC2 teached me enough about mechanics that I can now play BW without feeling like a total idiot. Lulz.

To increase the size of my e-peen. That and i guess it's pretty fun when I feel like I didn't play agonizingly bad. Improvement is always good too... it's a little of everything for me i guess.

I play now because when I was younger I would play competitive sports. Now that I am older and no longer play competitively, SC2 allows me to do something competitive.

I play for lack of other RTS games.
I really DONT like Broodwar, i don't know why but it really fails to sit with me and I just find it less fun when Im at home.

However playing in a room with others is fun.

You missed an option. I only play when I need to test something I saw a pro do so I can understand it better, either cause it was difficult for me to pull of or I was just amazed by. Same goes in BW, I play BW so I can understand what I'm watching better. But I'm a full time spectator. In fact, this applies to all sports, basketball, soccer, football, I play most of them so I can appreciate what I'm watching. And ofc, they are all fun.

I play because I must. I try quitting regularly but I get extremely bored, and I find that playing and hating it is far better than sheer boredom. If there's no struggle, there's nothing.
Also winning is fun, however rare it may be

Starcraft is a game that revealed the existence of flow to me.
It has only happened twice to me, the first time I had adrenaline rushing through my veins, the world became insubstantial, I couldn't hear my music any more, my hands were moving faster than ever, I was making positional tactics I didn't even think about, I was above normal reality. The first time it happened I could not tell you what I was feeling, reality was unreality.

The second time, same thing, adrenaline, complete and utter focus on the game. However this time I realized what was happening, and about 30 minutes into the game I had a big grin on my face as I had ultralisks demolishing my defenses and my drops were taking out all of his expansions while trying to relocate my own base.

 Flow.

I'm Korean American and sometimes knowing that I'm good at a RTS game relative to the masses of horrible players makes me experience some sort of reaction to my culture.
 Thankfully it's not KPOP.

Because it's fun. Honestly, if I wasn't having fun playing, I wouldn't play.

Combination of fun and something to improve at, so much left to discover and dig up :D

it's fun to improve myself, and it's even more fun when it's fun to improve myself
i probably would play less SC2 if i were placed in an hyperbolic gravity time chamber with gravity turned up to x10 and time dilation decreased to x.5 so that i couldn't move or think and had to struggle against all the forces of the universe at once

i might improve faster and then give up pretty quickly

i need the majority of my gaming to be positive reinforcement and then subtle queues (that i miss, for the most part), if i'm going to improve myself and not change my task

like imagine if 1A didn't work 10% of the time. probably about 20% of players would just overcome this by spamming 1A more, and 3 or 4 times when essential

80% of players would lose some frustrating games and then quit

also i think that hardcore SC players are a different breed than people who play other games, like the average MMO player, is highly intoxicated with alcohol when playing, while SC2 would be a pretty unsatisfactory experience for most alcoholics

so 'subtlety' or even not-so-subtlety, is lost on the average MMO player who is more likely to just rage quit when an obstacle presents itself

I keep playing because I want to improve and get into GM. My goal after that is to mess with SlayerS Cella in 1v1s on ladder.

cause it's fun of course. if you don't have fun playing you shouldn't play at all.
seriously, I try to go play other games now and I can't stomach it! they just aren't as fun / do not require the same amounts of brain power as SC (for example, MWF3, SWTOR, stuff like that)

and along that point, anything I think is legitimately fun i'll try to and be the best at it. just how i am :p

Stopped laddering almost completely, only log in to play some monobattles and making broodlord, roach, colossus, marauder work against immortal, immortal, voidray, mothership

I started because my roommates played, so that was brilliant.
Then I kept playing because I watched GSL and it was still kinda fun, especially messing around in teams and stuff.

As of last couple of months the reason is mainly just because I have nothing better to do.

Then ME3 came around and I got a Dota 2 key. So see you in HotS, SC2.
