1.Check dress code before going to a club-Most clubs have some form of dress code, whether that be dress casual/casual, always be sure to check. Security are used to dealing with assholes so they won't hesitate to stop you from going in, unless you have a cool $20 for the security guard. There are guidelines to play it safe. To be honest, even if you call into some clubs and ask, there's the chance the person you're talking to won't know shit. I've been burned by that a few times before. To play it safe: 1. Look nice. Clubs generally don't like hipsters, and they definitely don't like bums. 2. Wear black shoes. Some bouncers will let you in with black shoes even if they're not dressy. White shoes, or shoes of any other color, are only allowed on casual nights, or more relaxed/cheaper clubs. 3. Wear a collar. This isn't always necessary as long as you look nice, but we're playing it safe here. 4. Don't wear caps. Most clubs don't allow these, especially flat-billed caps. I honestly wouldn't recommend wearing anything on your head. Beanies get too hot and fedoras...well, if you're one of those types then go for it, I guess. 5. If you're a girl, try to wear closed-toe shoes. Clubs will have a specific policy about this, but in the event you can't check, just play it safe. 6. If you're a girl, bring a second pair of shoes. I've seen the suffering women go through to look "cute" in heels. By the end of the night, the only thing you'll be able to think of are the flip flops waiting for you in the car. 7. Don't dress up too much (unless you're going to a really really upscale/douchey club). Make sure you're comfortable, and don't look like a stiff. That's all I can think of for now. Don't bring a open pack of cigarettes-Some clubs will confiscate your cigarettes if they've been opened. Always buy a fresh pack if you plan on smoking. I've NEVER had a pack confiscated from me, opened or not. I honestly don't believe this. It's never been an issue for me, ever. Such a practice, if it in fact is one, would be a rare exception to the norm. I'd also advise to not give a shit about how you dance. If you're a guy, it honestly doesn't matter. Go watch that scene in that Will Smith movie, Hitch, and you'll be golden. Throw in one of those techno fist bumps after drops if you're feeling particularly on it. Girls...it really doesn't matter either. If you're totally abhorrent and ashamed, just grind on a friend and you're good. If you're neither, then it doesn't matter anyway. Best advice is to just have fun. Clubs are places to go dancing and hang out with friends. Drink 'til you're comfortable (CONTROL YOURSELF), and be merry. Putting pressure on yourself to hook up, pull numbers, or do anything at all will only make it less fun.

Also i see on tv shows and stuff sometimes they joke about drunk driving and shit it always make me reaaally uncomfortable, sort of like when you hear someone make a really racist joke. It always felt completely natural to me that drunk driving is one of the deadliest sins you could commit, i don't know if this is a swedish thing or if it's just me who got taught that by my parents and everyone else thinks it's actually something you can admit to without too much judgement... like shoplifting or smoking marijuana.

I live in SoCal, and I've gone clubbing fairly frequently in the OC/LA/Riverside areas. I don't go that often, but the few dozens of times I've gone, it's never been an issue, fresh pack or not. I don't go to particularly fancy ones, though, which may be the difference. The most upscale level I regularly go to would be something like Drai's in LA. It's probably to prevent people from sneaking marijuana, or other drugs, in through their cigarettes. Most clubs I've been to honestly don't care as long as you're not obvious about it either way, though, so I still don't understand it. It's honestly never been an issue for me. In crowded bar/club districts, the cops will regularly set up checkpoints going out on weekends. In California, you can have up to a 0.08 BAC and still be legally fine as long as you're not obviously affected, though, so you can have a few drinks and still be good to drive. That's a guideline, though. Cops can still fuck you with a DUI even if you're below that. But yes, not having a DD is a baaad idea.

A friend of mine was biking home after drinking. The next thing he remembers is that he woke up in the hospital after 10 hours of blackout. Someone else here on TL wrote: If you are going to drink heavily, drink beer. Thats a perfect rule. Once you start doing shots or mixed drinks (at home) it gets harder to control the amount of alcohol you drink whereas a beer is always a beer.

I think probably a vast majority of team liquid doesnt like going out, the 'going out crowd' is actually kinda small in every country I guess. For those that dont enjoy it, you really just need to find the right friends to enjoy yourself. In the past I'd go out and drink a couple of beers in a bar and then went to a club, and all my friends were like yea the party/club sucks/ the music is lame. Then you would talk to them about random stuf and leave the party early. It just isn't going to be much fun this way. The fun starts when you meet some people that share interests just like you but at the same time are really outgoing. If you have a couple of these, and you know where your limits are (That is drink every night just so much that you wont puke, but your damn close to) you'll start seeing the bright side of going out. Atleast thats how I experienced it. Oh and it helps when your going out if you're with a group of friends that you can trust will get you home safely

Everything you say is either a universal rule for every situation in your life, or just not true for every other "club scene" than the one you attend.

I'll try to answer the rest right now. why the hell wouldn't you drink too much? thats when the magic starts happening! I'm going to assume this was a joke. If by Magic you mean puking everywhere then yeah, magic. Do people really go to clubs with a designated driver assigned? I always thought that was just some myth cops made up to try and make people more responsible than is realistic. Yes, people really do. It's being responsible. If you're not responsible enough to have a designated driver you shouldn't be allowed on the road. What is the logic behind this rule ? In lower end clubs this really isn't a big deal but any medium-high quality clubs will make you give open packs at the door. My buddy is a bouncer and he's told me people have tried to sneak in everything from small knives to cocaine. Going out alone can actually be a ton of fun. I partially agree with this, if you have the social skills to be up to par. Having a friend is nice though because it gives you a wingman and you know you have someone there if shit hits the fan. Cool blog, dog! Along with the Vayayay sex guide this shit is seriously educating one nerd at a time ^___^ Thanks man, much appreciated ^^ It just isn't going to be much fun this way. The fun starts when you meet some people that share interests just like you but at the same time are really outgoing. Oh and it helps when your going out if you're with a group of friends that you can trust will get you home safely True, I always go out with people that I know are there to have a good time though. I've introduced some of my friends to the party/club scene. Some loved it, some hated it and some made complete asses out of them selves. Most useful part of this blog, rest of it is meh, (because America is a lot different than Denmark) Also, taxi anoyone? (Designated Driver?????) I can't speak for other countries aside from the ones that I've been in, Denmark not being one so I can't really comment. Taxis are a bitch to find at 3 in the morning for me though, especially after I've been drinking. I hate sitting and waiting for a Taxi to show up too. It occurs to me that the title of this thread should have been: "So you want to-(Party)-1 in a sub-urban area in southern California". Everything you say is either a universal rule for every situation in your life, or just not true for every other "club scene" than the one you attend. I've partied all over the place, just mainly in Southern California. You'd be surprised how many people don't know these "universal rules" Aside from that, I respect your opinion. I would agree with the set cash part, but get as drunk as you can that will allow you to still get in. That way you can keep a good buzz on the whole night while only buying 1-2 drinks. Some clubs won't allow you in if you reek of alcohol already/too intoxicated. If you can slide by without getting caught then go for it but It's not really worth the risk for me. That's the great thing about house parties though I suppose. What the hell did I just read? A "guide" on going out to a club? Really? Yes, yes you did. If you didn't want to read it you could have just stopped after the first sentence though.
