I applied to Harvard and Princeton. I don't think I will be accepted, but I applied regardless simply to find out for sure.

I am quite apprehensive.

Anyone else?

Don't worry about it too much. Their decisions are not the most accurate judgement of you as a person. Just because you didn't get into a school does not mean that you are an inadequate person. Even if things don't go your way, don't get down on yourself.

With that being said, good luck and I hope that you get accepted by both.

applied to yale. mostly because of pressure from teachers/chairman of my small private school as no one has gotten in before in its short history and i have the highest sat score yet from previous students...
0 expectation to get in. i'm already deciding between 3 other colleges i got into with generous aid. but by the chance (not happening) i DO get in, i will most happily go lol.

good luck!

oh and USC/Emory coming out within today/tomorrow for me so wish me luck :D

Best of luck! Good to hear that you have quite a few backup plans lined up though. Hopefully Yale accepts you

Edit: I'd also like to wish all students the best of luck with the admissions.

I'm a freshman, my school has a "Wall of Shame" where the seniors post all their failed applications.

A week ago someone changed the sign to "Wall of MIT".

Educational system and universities are so different in the US compared to where I live (Sweden). People (fellow students) don't really care that much about test scores/grades from my experience and I don't know if there's that much of a difference in acceptance levels between different universities at all.

There is a huge difference in acceptance levels, ranging anywhere from 100% (community colleges) to around 8% or so (most of the Ivy League, big tech schools). OP, take comfort in the fact that almost everyone who applies to one of the big name colleges/universities is fully qualified to go there and do very well, but when you get 20,000 people applying for 1500 spots, the "signal to noise" ratio in who gets accepted and rejected is extremely low. The majority of people who apply get rejected because there just aren't enough spots and they got unlucky. It's not like college admissions departments have some magic formula where they feed your application into a machine and it spits out a numerical score and they accept everyone above a certain cutoff, because it's impossible to just rank applicants in a straightforward manner. They accept people who clearly have potential to excel academically and will also bring something interesting/useful to the larger community of the incoming class.

This time last year was a bad time.

(Not really. Maybe. I don't know, but I'll tell you, getting waitlisted sucks - don't expect to get in Ivies after getting waitlisted :x )

Do we live in the same country lol? We have a pretty similar situation in Sweden but it's not as extreme compared to the US and Ivy leagues... Things like ECs don't matter at all but that's about it.

Good luck! Regular decision admission rates seem absurdly low this year, probably around <5% for many Ivy League schools.

Its okay, kids at Emory seem overly worried about grades and not about learning. Maybe I'm biased because I have to deal with these retarded premeds but it seemed like my undergrad had a better student pop.

Its true that they're the same everywhere but it feels like the proportion at Emory is higher than normal. Maybe I'm just realizing it now because I'm a TA but dear god they ask some incredibly stupid questions.

It's because Emory's a v. good place to study bio, so it tends to attract more premeds. Same with WashU; I visited a friend at WashU last year, and dear god, all the students I spoke to were on a premed track (incl. my friend). Some of them weren't majoring in bio, but it was like: "Oh, I'm majoring in Classics, but I'm doing premed too!" "I'm majoring in biomed engineering, but I'm on the premed track." I was like, "Wtf, how do you guys have time?"

You can't always hope for too much. I've heard of people getting accepted into harvard but then getting turned down by places like stanford and yale.

Honestly, fuck finding out about acceptances via an online page. I'll be honest, nothing was worse than logging on and putting in some id only to get a simple yes or no. Makes rejection feel much worse...
