So im a pretty high master toss on the na server, and i love talkin strategy and reviewing replays and all that stuff. My brother plays sc2 and is a natural. masters with like 10 games palyed a season, but we dont live together anymore and he stopped playing in persuit of things like gem td......... That wouldnt be the worst if i could find somewhere else to get my fix of nerd.
I had never met a random sc2 player in public, besides at one mlg, but this january I started college. I thought i was in luck, the first day of school i see a kid wearing a protoss shirt and barade him with sc2 knowledge. I then learn he was a rank d or something bw player and couldnt beat a medium on sc2 custom. while showing him a pvt i was all, okay so now im going to play defencive, and his responce is...... well what are you thinking man.... you gotta get those photon cannons. There is no way to talk any reasonable strategy or sc2 when someone trely thinks that to be the right decision haha.
probably about a week later i discovered this gaming room on campus where nerds congregate to game.I walk through the door, go to what appeared to be a sign in counter, and ask the kid there if there were any legit sc2 players about. His responce was what is your definition of legit? i respond im thinking top 1000 in us? he looks at me with big ass eyes and is like would this include you? I say ehhhh i flucuate, thats me on a bad day. Then the strangest thing happen. The nerd in question walks to the front of a little ampetheatre setup, and announces we have a special guest a high masters toss here to show you a few games.... so i proceeded to play 3 or 4 games on this stage showin off all ive got. probably 10 kids confronted me telling me they were silver with the hopes of being plat one day. All of these nerds werent real ones, but the off breed that LOL all day and all night.
I forgot the paragraph about where im from, thats important. Most gamers come from social hubs, like cali or ny , or they come from somewhere bitter cold where all there is to do is game. Being from colorado im not sure i cover either of these spectrums. Colorado is the most athletic state in america, and in lue of this fact, probably produces the least progammers of any state as well. Really sucks when you just wanna talk about your new strat or bitch about marine drops. I no longer wanna spend late nights pawnin ladder only to have to cage the beast that is my stallker micro when in public. I need a nerd, but there seems to be a shortage.

Finding nerds is what the internet is for.
Active: 11372 Nerds RIGHT NOW!
College is a place to experience new things! Indulge.

majority of college sc2 players really don't have time to play hardcore and mostly are just casual gamers. just have your fix here on TL and use college for more social activities =)

i play maybe 2 games a day average, and that is more like 14 in one day on a sunday or something. The rest of the time i am voicing my support for the herbal remedy, and lovin the out doors. its just that when ive had enough of that and its time to sc2 there is something so generic to talkin to niggas through a keyboard.

Maybe you should've picked a college with higher amounts of high level SC2 players, or one with a CSL team.

Funny somewhat-related story: My mom was on a business trip in Cleveland and was taking a decent length cab ride from the airport to where she was working. During her conversation it somehow came up that she has a son (me) that plays games competitively. He asked what game I played, then asked my mom if I was on a team, and he'd heard of gosu and heard of me haha. kinda funny one, though I have never met "legit" sc2 players irl other than at lans! Although there was a guy in a Starbucks who said hi to me and asked if I was pokebunny, but my gf was wearing my hoodie that says pokebunny on the back and I was wearing an sports shirt haha

Opposite experience.
I go to random LAN cash tournaments that pop around the greater Los Angeles and Orange County areas with my brother who competes, and there's always at least half a dozen or so grand master's players about.
Here I am high plat, low diamond and I don't even bother playing because in order to have a chance of getting out of the first round you have to be at least top 25 master's level it's insane how competitive it is here.
I envy your celebrity status, even if it is amongst the nerd folk.

There are quite a few SC2 players in my area. even including the likes of Orb and whatnot. But OF COURSE my school has no legitimate sc2 players. I think I've only met 1 guy who plays well but I didn't have a good chance to connect with him =_=. I'm going to throw on my esports shirts when they come on the mail and hopefully it'll draw in some fellow nerds =)
But yeah I understand that longing for a fellow nerd to talk to. Sucks to be the only one SC2 player in the gaming club.

Using open forums such as TL to find other like-gamers in your region can be a great method, TL led me to the New England SC2 League, and now. I have some great new friends and we all share a passion for SC2. attending live events, or simply trying to organize something on your own could bring people out of the woodwork you never knew where there.
Tourneys, barcrafts (even in your living room.), meet-ups. it's all the same.

god i would love to be a part of csl. or maybe compete inm a lan or two

at my school there are a few people who play sc2. sadly none of them are above silver. I myself am diamond, and hopefully I'll be masters next season.

No nerds where I live either. That, or they are really intimidated to talk to random parent walking on the street w/ 8 years old kid, even though I am often sporting something SC2ish (hoodie, t-shirt...) Oh well... but then again, Czech republic is small, so we have shortage on utter nerds in general... T_T

swag dude you're just the most popular guy now, use your skillz to get all t3h babez and l00t.

Just because they're not as good as you doesn't mean you can't train them or just plain hang out and have fun. Make the most of your shared interests, even if they aren't exactly like you!
