I have been in the workforce for a couple years now and am looking to move on to my next job.

As one of my interests, I have put down "E-sports" right after Piano and Snowboarding. Do you think having that as an interest will in any way deter potential employers?

The field I'm looking at is PA/Online Marketing.

I would say it depends on the company, if you feel like it's a more hip/young company you might be able to get away with it. With a more conservative company I would go with a more conservative resume.

Most likely it will just go unnoticed imo.

I think as long as your "interests" doesn't affect your value as an employers, it should be fine. Like have you put drinking/partying sunday night, that would be bad. And like the person above me said, chances are it would go unnoticed.

if they do ask about it, i imagine they will want to hear some sort of involvement in it. if you mean watching events they might see that similarly to putting television on your resume.

Yeah, I got to agree with this. If you're not a content provider, don't mention it. If you are, strongly consider still not mentioning it unless it's closely related to the type of jobs you expect to be getting.

I don't see why not, as long as you're prepared to give a short explanation in the interview. I mean, I put "urban simulation games" on my resume, was asked about it in the interview (I said I like SimCity because it allows me to plan out districts and optimize travel patterns or some bullshit like that), and here I am at the transportation engineering job.

That's different from an untargeted resume like the OP is talking, though. Making a hobby of something similar to the job you want is fine, but if you don't know who's going to read it, it could hurt you.

Unfortunately there can still be a stigma attached to something like e-sports. I would personally leave it off of the resume as others have advised.

Leave it in - but only if you have something good to say about eSports. Generally, you'll want to avoid stuff like these as it kind of gets dumped into the same category as Watching TV, Surfing the Internet etc. These are 'hobbies' that your potential employer doesn't actually care about as they sound too common or too vague. To make something like this work, you could elaborate it slightly in a single sentence to make it sound more interesting so that you'll be opening yourself up to a talking point between you and your interviewer.

Most people still have no idea to what eSports is. They might know about online gaming and would generally view it as a bad thing, but if you could turn it around and show a different side of it, it'll definitely differentiate you from the rest of the clones that are out there. Take heed though, you'll want to show that, yes you have something else that makes you stand out from the rest, but you'll want to also stand out just enough to be noticed - not so much that the interviewer feels that you won't fit into the company.

Show that you can be an active contributor to something that you are passionate about (say, eSports) and talk about how you've always wanted to work as an online marketeer and that you believe that you will be passionate about the job. This allows your interest in eSports to be a plus point because you've shown (or have led your interviewer to believe) that your passion translates into active contribution. As much as your employer would want to know if you're qualified for the job, they'll also want to know if you're willing and happy to do the job that you're applying for - having some sort of extra marker (ie passion) will help them decide better.

I've heard arguments about the pros and cons of each, I'm just curious what the general consensus is. I personally have both, a one page for jobs that I think don't require as much info, and a two page for "serious" job apps.

Any full time job that requires a bachelors degree should be two pages. There are just too many things to list for a professional job to cram it all onto one.
