I'll always remember waking up to see you just a few feet away
I'll remember how playful you were, and all the times you've made me bleed
I'll remember you politely sitting by the dinner table, waiting for something delicious
I'll remember how happy you were to see anyone our family deemed as a friend
I'll remember how smart you really were, despite all the comments suggesting otherwise
I'll remember when you stopped eating, and wondering what was wrong
I'll remember hearing the vet had no idea what could be going on
I'll remember carrying you in from outside when you were too weak to move
I'll remember how selfish I felt thinking maybe it was what you wanted
I'll remember not getting a chance to say goodbye, not knowing if I'll ever you see again
I'll remember the call from the vet, saying the operation would not be a success

You were a great friend, an excellent confidant, and will never be replaced. But most importantly..

I'll never forget.

man, there's nothing like a dog. I still haven't gotten over the death of my first dog, even though she lived a long, healthy life (17!). It's sad, but sometimes the only way to cure the void in your heart that they leave is to get a new dog and love them just as much. I have another dog now, but there isn't a day that's gone by that I don't think about my first one.

Yeah, this is for better or worse not my first experience losing a pet, but he certainly held a special place compared to the others. Sadly right now a new pet is not in the foreseeable future, but this certainly won't be my last pet.

I am really sorry to hear about that, great looking dog. I have lost a few dogs over the years, and it is rough. Which brings me to the reason for my post. I do not know what you did or are doing with the remains, but if you are thinking about cremation, there is a company that will put a small amount of the ashes in a handmade peice of glass work. I have one my mom got for me when my first dog died. I can not remember the name of the company, but I will see if I can find it out tomorow, and edit it into my post. Again, sorry for your loss, and thank you for the moving peice of writing.
