Okay let me start this off by saying that this is sort of a rant about the topic of an argument I had about the validity of that damn book.
The Guinness Book of World Records is a well known book that is supposed to be about people who accomplished amazing things and are receiving recognition for what they did even though what they did may be totally useless.
One particularly stupid one added in (and I must say that it isn't really a world record rather than a consensus of their opinions) is that recently it has been added that Call of Duty: Black Ops have won the world record of the best video game ending ever.
Despite this being a totally opinion based "record" they are still planning on putting this one in that book and why wouldn't they? I mean it is their book so it is only right that their opinion is the one that gets put in right? Wrong.
This book and the company behind it really lost my respect for adding something like this in. I mean there are some completely stupid records out there (such as the farthest someone can squirt "eye milk" and the most eggs someone can crush with their head in one minute <- which is 80 by the way) but I think by adding something that is purely opinionated is a really desperate move.
Only so many records can be made or changed in one year and they have to add in these stupid non-records so that people will buy their crappy book.
It seems that out of all of the different genres, thirteen thousand people have voted that Call of Duty: Black Ops has had the best game ending in the history of all games ever invented ever. Now if that had some credibility to it (it doesn't) then that should be something to brag about. But since it's not really a record, I call shenanigans on the Guinness Book of World Records and their "survey" that has an all powerful effect on the past, present, and future of gaming standards.
Sorry for this kind of aimless rant but I really had to get this off of my chest.

Halo has and always will have the best ending.

It's basically a dumb trivia book that doesn't really mean or account for anything. I wouldn't worry about what they decide to put in it.

I don't think anyone has given a shit about Guinness since the internet became fast for most people. Now we can see stupid shit whenever we want without the help of Guinness. Worlds biggest pizza? Probably a Google search away.
I'd like to know the criteria of this specific record. I'm sure you're overreacting a little. Guinness records I've seen have always been empirical, I can't see them having one of their people judge video games. They probably just aggregated review scores for video game endings and stuck it in, and there's nothing particularly more stupid about that than deciding that there is no one in the world who can do consecutively more ollies or whatever random skateboard tricks in a row (rather than just no one cares). A few people are going to know what I'm talking about... On Rob and Big they basically broke like 6 records because they were bored. There's a lot of stuff anyone could break if only they wanted to pay Guinness to come judge them. They shot themselves in the foot the moment they started accepting records no one cares about (ie people who just want their name in a book).
edit: http://www.junkfoodnews.net/worldrecords.htm look at all these hilariously stupid records.

your gana tell me you they overlooked Donkey Kong Jr. Math? seriously though i can name 5 games off the top of my head with better endings and im not a fan of single player games

The world's largest fish taco... Seriously.. Do the people who made that record actually think that they've accomplished something meaningful? I mean granted I play video games half the day but making the world's largest fish taco? I hope they at least ate it..

Forbes.com article about this. The article begins: I’m a little unclear here. When did voting become a factor in winning records in the famed Guiness Book? The answer, I suppose, is when the group started creating completely subjective categories in order to fill space. Way to destroy your credibility, Guinness.

LOL poor Guinness. Trying to make a relevant book based on trivia in the internet age must be a struggle.

I think the best ending of any video game has got to be Starcraft 2 Wings of Liberty.
And you guys talk about Halo but I think out of all the Halos it is Halo 2 that has the best ending. I mean, the emotion in Master Chief's voice when he says "FINISHING THE FIGHT" just absolutely destroys me in terms of pure ingenuity in how they managed to end that game.

If you give them enough money, they'll give you an award for best blog post ever.

great way to lose all your credibility as a record keeping organization. congrads.

Yeah, I saw this and was pretty pissed off.
I have always thought that CoD games were shit to begin with but this is just silly.
Halo, Mass Effect, Mirror's Edge are all games I think EASILY rank higher than that.
Fallout 3 was pretty good as well.
Also, KOTOR 2 had a pretty sweet ending. + Show Spoiler +

I would like to announce my induction into the Guinness Book of World Records as the Most Handsome Gamer Alive, as voted on by myself, receiving 60% of the vote. (other 40% went to NaDa)

Wtf was special about halo's ending?
Hm if I had to think about it.. I think Grim Fandango had my favourite ending, although I dont remember it perfectly well.
Of course OP is right, doesnt belong in a world record book, wf..

Have they given themselves the award for giving out the most awards yet?
