So why follow this blog, and why would you want to listen to what I have to say? That's a darn good question and if I can't answer that then why read this right?
Who am I and why follow this blog
For starters my days as a player in the pro scene have long since come and gone. I'm not bad at games but I'm 29 years old now and I'm just not physically capable of playing to the level someone who is younger is. Not with a bit of arthritis in my hands and wrists or carpal tunnel or w/e it its, the long story short is after a three or four hours playing my hands hurt like nobody's business and that's my limit. So in Starcraft 2 for instance I hang around high diamond and low masters, which isn't bad, but I have no thoughts that someday i'll magically be able to play enough to be a GM level player on a pro team.
What I do have though at this point in my eSports career is knowledge, and that can be used to my benefit on the entertainment side. I was pro in the online racing scene for years, I ran a team, I delt with sponsors, I was a top player myself, so I've experienced first hand all of the team and player side of the eSports world. In a time I might add where players and teams didn't really make much money doing what they loved, top players minus a very select few included. Additionally I made videos with commentary I put up on youtube forever ago that barely anyone watched but it gave me experience with commentary, video editing, and graphic design. This all mind you while slowly going to college on a part time basis because I enjoy learning new things, and having a college degree to fall back on is not a bad move ever.
So with age and ailments in mind, I've chosen to take the route of being a commentator or caster if you will. Learning the ins and outs of Starcraft II from very early on before it blew up. Nor was it my first RTS having played BW, C&C, Warcraft, and Dawn of War, so I knew already that I loved the genre and the first Starcraft. I also dedicate numerous hours outside of working to pay bills, and school to keeping up with as much as I can, be it leagues, strats, whatever I think I need to know to be a knowledgeable commentator.
Thus far as I've worked on my craft extremely hard and I currently do casts for MLG.tv and z33k. I've also casted live at MLG Orlando, for playhem, and a slew of other organizations for show matches and tournaments, including for TL.
In that time I've meet a lot of amazing people Lee from MLG, Tumba, JP, Sean 'day9', Clutch, Nick 'tasteless', Alex 'EG Owner', White-Ra, Etc. etc. the list could go on but the point of this isn't to name drop, just to let you know I've gotten around and meet a lot of people in the industry. More importantly is that I've gotten to hang out and talk to many of these people and work with them and really get to experience the insides of eSports that makes it run so that you can sit at home and watch a stream of an event. Also hopefully there will be much more of that in my future because I'm a dedicated person who works hard to achieve their goals.
So if that alone isn't enough of a hook for you go ahead and read #2 and you'll get a sample of what the blog itself will entail. As I chronicle my adventures in eSports.
