last night I had my first taste of Henry Sue's Circular Tong Long Southern Praying Mantis style Kung Fu!
It is the very same style my dad learned when he was a kid, main reason I have started at this particular place ^.^
Anyways, I arrived and there were quite a few people with their respective sash colors (green, blue, black, purple etc.) and it seemed quite intimidating at first but once I got into the lesson with the other newbies (yes they have a newbie class, I wittily renamed it the Bronze League) in which we learn the various strikes, footwork and Academy etiquette (it is the Chinese Kung Fu Academy after all :D)
The only issue I was told I has was keeping my back straight and not leaning forward, losing my height. I am 6'1 so the instructor was like 'what are you doing! Stand damnit!' and kept hitting my back (softly though haha) until i got it right.
I got home, SUPER TIRED, went straight to bed and woke up rather late as well, I simply CANNOT WAIT for the next lesson.
So yea that was kinda my first experience in proper martial arts.
By the way when I say proper, I MEAN PROPER LOL
The Southern Shaolin Temple in China spent 12 years searching for a style of SPM (southern praying mantis) being taught that accurately reflected the original Shaolin style from hundreds of years ago of which its manuscripts were lost.
The Academy I am going to, was chosen.
So leg!t!
So if anybody has any advice in taking on a martial art seriously over and number of years, shoot!
Otherwise, I don't mind, you can post anything! (well, almost...)
just wanted to write this blog :D
Thanks!
