What amazed me however was that browsing the shop's (german K&M) website showed the RAM at 43 € contradicting what geizhals.at had told me, a german/austrian hardware price search engine. A confused call to the shop got me a store clerk who told me to click on the link on the search engine instead of manually going to the shop's website but I didn't understand it - was the price difference between ordering online and then choosing "shipment - pay at the store" and the stores in house prices really that big? I know that there are sometimes different prices for shopping online and buying at the store but that made no sense at all to me as I was going to buy it at the store anyways. Until I finally got it:
The store's prices differ greatly depending on what link you follow to access the website!
The rationale seems to be as follows:
Customer A takes the time to consult the price search - the shop goes as low as possible to obtain a top spot on the list.
Customer B has made good experiences with the shop and just types in the webpage without comparing first or goes directly to the physical store with the decision to buy some product X - the shop milks him for as much as possible.
As I hate all kinds of unfairness (even if it benefits me in this case :-)) I hope this gets around to everybody: Be very careful for what price you buy and compare prices beforehand!
