howdy tlers im a new addition to the infinity gaming clan and i am just here to state some concerns i have about me streaming. first off if i were to atempt to do what i wanna do ill need a nerds assistance on optimizing stream settings and all. now to the meat and bread of this post. i have a little dry spell in my schooling... starting college in about a month... and i want to stream my way as high as i can go before i have to start my schooling. now my rank has been top 8 masters every season so far and i havent had much time to just grind out matches so this would be a good chance to see the out come of something like that. maybe even gm would be a possibility. now im wondering if a high master toss's potential month long road to gm would interest anyone enough to enjoy my pressure heavy micro intensive style over one of the more publicly viewed streams, or would i just be intoducing more programs and a lot of time so 1 or 2 people might watch my stream occasionally. Im just wondering whether setting up my stream for this month will be benificial to you guys i know my friends love watching my matches and tell me they are much more hyper agreesive and fast paced than most of the pro streams and i feel like a captive audience would just help improvement even moreso

You won't know until you stream. A lot of people can say they'd be interested, but you'll soon find out that although the content may be of worth, the time, when you stream and other variables may not suit their schedule or life.
By asking the above quoted question, you're asking to be disappointed when the number of interested participants don't match your average viewcount.

You should use proper English formatting if you want people to take your posts seriously.
As for a stream: look at the stream bar right now. There's over 100 active streams in the middle of the afternoon on a workday. You have to do serious self promotion to get any viewers, and to maintain any audience you need to be very good, or be an intensely entertaining person. So, if your not as good as Tyler, or not as interesting as Destiny, you'll be spending a lot of time streaming to 1-6 people.
My advice is to keep practicing. Stream your practice if you like, but don't expect over a dozen viewers at any time. Get good enough to win a few weekly tournies> get in a good clan> get featured stream. Or the Stephano build: practice in solitude for weeks> win IPL> stream to thousands.
In any case, just starting a stream will get you nowhere. You have to be known in the community to have any interest. Whether you become known for winning things, or being interesting, or being in a high profile clan is up to you. You'll almost certainly get nothing by trying to get known by streaming, but if you get known, you're stream will probably be very successful.

thanks for the input guys sounds like the concencus is gain recognision before making an attempt to be a serious streamer

I think the concurred idea would be that if you want a good amount of viewers, you're going to have to add something to your content that no one else does and appeals to a good number of people.
Then promote, promote, promote and stream for the sake of streaming.

There's no reason not to stream your practice (unless you have a bandwidth restrictive internet plan), but just make sure to measure you expectations. You almost certainly will not have more than a few dozen people tuning in to your stream for a long time. You have to get your name out there, lest you be lost in the ocean of non-featured streams.

I think your friends are just big fans of you. Honestly, stream if you feel it's fun. You're likely not going to have many viewers and TL is not really going to benefit from it. If you don't find it fun then there's no point in doing it.

thanks guys ill probably try setting it up ill look for help on streaming specifics but ill try not to set my hopes too high!

Honestly, I stream because its a restraintive way to keep me from raging and banging my desk (which seriously needs to not be banged).
You'll soon find out that quality over quantity is a huge truth with viewers. I get about 3 to 5 viewers, but they're very chatty and helpful which is something I wouldn't trade for 1,000 pestering or quiet viewers.

I would enjoy watching constant protoss aggression.

How is that the case? User streams are the backbone of the SC2 scene in general. Maybe he's one drop in the sea at this point, but saying that his stream doesn't benefit TL seems pretty short sighted :/

Players at that level are fairly common on this site. Streaming and strategy are both dominated by the tip-top players and entertainers. To say that someone is not one of those people needn't be short sighted. I think Chill is trying to encourage some prioritization: STREAMER'S ENTERTAINMENT >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>streamer's strategy impact or streamer's impact on TL.
To use an example from this thread, Torte streams, and also comments on pretty much everything. His impact on this website is almost entirely to be found in thread comments. And that's ok. He seems to finds the streaming to be fun and productive. Win on all counts.

If all the non-featured streams died tomorrow, apart from the streamers themselves the # of people who would be very upset is probably pretty small. I think the point Chill is trying to make is that if you are going to stream for fun/self improvement/etc. regardless of how many viewers you have, then go for it (and you basically wouldn't need to post on a community forum asking how many people might be interested). But the fact that he cares how many viewers he might get shows an ulterior motive (ie. making money from commercials) and statistically he is not likely to become a successful streamer.
