Know the feeling. A break is one of the best things you can do (at least, it was for me). Now I'm randoming it up, have like 180 games played in the last 3 weeks, which is absolutely insane for me. It's fun again!

Take a break, or random it up. :D

You could give Brood War a try, if nothing else, just for a change in pace. Looking through this thread, it seems like you're not the only one with these feelings about Starcraft 2, but there is a lot of praise for Brood War. Who knows, you might end up even enjoying Brood War enough to stick with it. Best of all, it's free in ICCUP's website.

what happens is ppl dream big. they dont have the potential and then they hate what they once loved as an anti rejection mechanism. its not uncommon. many of my friends started with sc2 wow or a moba game and thought they would be good and when they eventually hit that "omg i will never be a top level player" they adopted the "its cool im not a hardcore nerd so i dont have to be good". your thought process is not uncommon but it is an excuse/defense mechanism that you must humble yourself up or get TRULY critical of yourself and try your hardest. doubt you have tried your hardest

maybe you possess the ability but not the intelligence so get coaching. maybe you just cant do it but i doubt u have tried everything

I've been offracing Zerg for the last couple of days to break out of my Terran box and general frustration that comes with trying to get good at Starcraft.

Getting good at anything means you're going to hit a lot of walls, I figure one of the hardest things is to actually not simply give up at any one of these points. Taking breaks or approaching your problem from a different angle can be totally refreshing, no-one just plays straight-up constructive Starcraft 24/7. Motivation is a limited resource and sometimes you need change things up to recharge.

Take a week off and totally forget about Starcraft, indulge in other activitities and hopefully come back with renewed motivation. I even find that a lot of times I play better after a small break, maybe because your brain gets some time to adapt to your needs?

Anyways, good luck either way
I think esports is pretty nice.

Listen to this guy. I can't tell you how frustrated I've been about writing sometimes, and kept running into walls, and sometimes the best decision was to walk away for a while. There are things that your brain does in deconstructing a problem when you're not actively thinking about it that is pretty amazing. When you return the problem you had is gone, and you have a renewed sense of determination. Just don't put too much pressure on yourself to improve, because that will degrade your drive just that much quicker. Also in my experience, the better one gets at an activity, the harder it becomes to get better because you are closing the skill gap in much smaller increments.

That's the time when you lay off the gaming and lay into the scoutcraft. If you're macro is fine, you micro is passably existant, and you have decent builds you can get into non-korean masters through pure grit. Then comes the first real proving grounds, what kind of player are you? What kind of player do you want to be? Be specific. Do you want to be a player like HuK who is like a bizzaro mirror that copies things so well that they become even better? Do you want to be a player like July who CREATES openings when there are none and devastates opponents by understanding minute timings and weaknesses and exploiting them to hell? Or, perhaps, do you want to go down the road of BoxeR and attempt to create something closer to art and showmanship than pure gaming?

Either way, if you can hit masters you've taken the first real step to being "good".

If you're actually getting bored and can't match your image of perfection and it's driving you nuts... get rid of that image of perfection and start from scratch. Ignore any builds you know and play from muscle memory. DO NOT DO COOKIE CUTTER BUILDS. Do what you feel like works and feels good, and play in a way that fits you, even if it's sub optimal... because you can only really become a "good" gamer if you know how to play and understand the game.

Or you can do what I do and try to match up constant scouting information with constant refreshment of your game plan. (i,e, play like Artosis, have a basic gameplan and change it into whatever counters your opponent best... it's fairly free form and makes you a better gamer over all)

Good luck and good hunting!
A time to live.

I've heard from a lot of people that SC2 is like the one game they can't stand losing at. I don't know why.

I suggest a break for a few days or a week, more if you come back and still aren't satisfied. This is a commonly occurring problem with anyone that tries really hard to improve for what is to them an extended period. Analyze this experience, measuring how much it took for you to burn out. After a rest period, get back on the horse and measure the time it takes for you to burn out again, as well as account for any other aspect of your life that may be contributing to your dissatisfaction. Once you begin to understand your limits, you'll be much happier working within them and achieve your goals faster than you would otherwise.

oh shit, i think i played you a little while ago. :O!
i have the same goals... and whenever i feel frustrated i just offrace as protoss in some custom games (it's the race i lost the most to, but used to play it), get to 5 base, and just macro out of only gateways. There's something satisfying about warping out of 30 gateways after your entire army dies. It usually makes me feel like there is more to the game than i realize, more builds to explore, more openings to exploit, and i don't feel frustrated anymore.

The most important thing you need to remember is: You're not alone

Plenty of ppl are going through/have gone through what you are going through.

Everyone is different. Some ppl don't ever get tired of SC2, other ppl will find it sickening as time progresses. If you need a break then take a break. Take it for as long as you need.

But just remember to come back to it eventually : ]

I've decided i'm just gonna off race on my other account in bronze and have some fun lol. Hopefully I don't lose too much of my current skill lol.

Everybody is gonna hit this wall at least once, but the difference between you and a progamer is that the progamer is going to play even more to achieve his goal, you can easily get GM with pure dedication. My advice is to not go with big goals and simply put smaller objectives, maybe take some days off to clean your toughts and then come back with even more dedication and start working harder than ever!
