So about December 10'th (I believe?) I was able to force myself to stop playing starcraft 2. Why? I was getting to the point that when I lost a game no matter what the urge to flame someone was always there. Getting to frustrated way to easily. This actually happened to me in brood war as well and I took a little break and it just helps wonders.

So now after not allowing myself to not play for a few weeks my urge to play is back to how it used to be and this is the longest I have gone not even launching the game. Now you are probably asking why am I writing this?

Two reasons! I am bored and for people are are frustrated to the point of doing what I have done can possibly see a solution.

I will first start in brood war when this happened to me. I remember hitting C- for the first time (and got C on the last day of the season :D). I remember though after I hit C- that same week I had almost gotten to C, needed like 1 win to do it. Want to know what happened? Epic losing streak I believe I even hit D+ for a little bit before bouncing back to mid C- then back to D+ and so on. I remember getting to the same point I was at a few weeks ago for sc2. Wanted to flame people no matter what after a loss (and did obviously do).

I took like a week off to cool off, take a break and was the best decision I made. I play again a week alter, get C pretty easily and just played a lot better, my nerd rage simmered to where I didn't want to flame anyone after a loss (I don't remember if I gg'd, believe I did but not sure ).

So that brings me to my sc2 break where I took 3 times the length about. Since sc2 came out while I never played to much (2-4 hours a day) I have literally played the game every day 2-4 hours and since I didn't play it as much as bw (which I played like who knows all day if I could :D) It took me a long while to get to that rage feeling.

So finally after a month or so of wanting to rage at my poor opponent (and doing so to some, mainly protoss) I forced myself not to play the game. I plan on playing again January 3rd but I did play some games today but it was so nice to play and not get so angry after a loss which means back to streaming and playing :D. What I want to do is play a couple hours without streaming for pure practice, then a couple hours or so of streaming with commentary like I have been doing a lot which a lot of people enjoy when I do so I do plan on keeping that going but also playing without streaming as well :D.

I think a lot of players get this feeling of flaming after they lose even though they tell themselves they won't.

Lucky for me the reason my break was also so long was due to SWTOR (which btw is a fucking awesome game). I am ready to actually start playing sc2 again for hopefully longer periods of time without as much frustration and get myself back into a good practice habbit like I used to have in brood war.

So if you, like me were/are having these anger problems seriously just take a week off, play some other games and then come back to mass play to get your new rank if that is your goal. For me and I don't know why but when I take long breaks I feel like I play better then before and I think this has to do with not so much anger (especially at a certain race that whenever I would get que'd up against would make me rage just looking at the symbol *cough* protoss *cough*).

Btw this video explains what happens if you are as angry as can be at this game.

That is the ultimate price if you continue down the path!

i once took a "month" break from sc2 because i was raging too hard.

in that time i completed my year 13 receiving 3 awards for basically being smart and getting good grades and got into uni, which ill be starting a double degree next year.

.....yeah my month sort of turned into a year.

actually, if i didnt take that "month" break of sc2 i would have never got bored enough to get off my ass and get the score i needed for uni and my life would be rail roading into nothingness.

who could have thought, that the rage induced from playing sc2 caused me to get into uni 0.0

I support this message wholeheartedly.

Ahhhhh, I've taken breaks but they only make me rage more because I feel like I'm playing much worse.
I watch your stream btw, you're awesome

You don't need rage to motivates breaks. Breaks can help reset your mentality and keep you refreshed after a really long binge of SC2. Just let all the new information and mistakes you've learned from sink in over time and become innate to your play.

On the negative side, if you take a break, you could also feel "off" when you start to play again. Could go both ways, but I think it's worth it overall if it cools down any raging.

I'm about to do the same thing. I have been rocking a solid 20% win rate lately. One loss and then I keep getting angrier and angrier. Tilt certainly doesn't help my play at al. Your first paragraph describes how I have felt about the game lately.
I had finally hit plat on the KR server, was starting to play vs a couple diamonds, then boom, multiple losses in a row. Now I am facing gold league again

How much time did you take off?
Did you do any replay analysis or watch any streams during your time off?
Or just nothing Starcraft 2 related for a while?

I may just play through the Modern Warfare 3 campaign and challenges (which would take about a week) then start playing again.
Stop whining about imbalance. You're just bad (likely) at the game and I am probably worse. Just have some fun

see, taking a break is a temporally solution but it wont help you in the end. Recently i discovered a way to actually solve my own anger problem therefore i can play almost 40 games a day without feeling hate toward anyone.

I think the most angry that i got is when a guy tried to cannon rush me yesterday and failed and i was 2 bases vs him 1 base and he still try hard with his cheesy tactics. End of the game i just typed 'out' to make him go away.

the point is, you are distracting yourself from the main problem which is your anger management with a minor problem which is enjoying starcraft and i think that is a really bad way to approach this common situation.

I'm doing this same thing right now. Though I started not playing unintentionally and now I'm slowly coming back. Though I'm thinking about switching to zerg..not really sure yet though. Anyway I totally agree with taking breaks, it helps keep a positive mindset and just lets you do other things besides sc2 constantly for a couple weeks.

I always rage like that. Even after along break. Even if i'm intoxicated.

I personally took a break from talking on ladder; if you never type to your opponent, the flood gates never open, and you don't flame them.

Otherwise WATCH THEM BURN

Well I took about a month off but 3 weeks of almost no sc2 at all except for watching some streams or GSL.

I did not launch the game at all but I did watch streams sometimes like Idra or GSL but for the most part no sc2 at all past month .

Hm I disagree in a way. A break for me personally clears my mind and I think a lot more clearly and it helps a lot. I enjoy starcraft when I am not losing. That is for most people who play and get to masters or whatever. If you play 1v1 you don't enjoy losing will for most people not everyone. For me its just a competitive thing that won't go away. Always been super competitive in anything I do which is why I enjoy sc2 so much.

I enjoy the game except when I am losing .

Fuck your race! <3.

Yeah SWTOR is really fun for me, the thing for me though is the only games I ever get sucked into for long periods of time are RTS games. Shooters/MMO's/etc I never get so into them like I do for RTS. Examples of this are I can play an MMO for a month or 2 then need to take a break where as for RTS I played aoe1 until aoe2 came out and I played that until Age of mythology came out, played that game until age of empires 3 came out, all expansions for 3 years + on all the games I just listed. Played BW for 8 months then SC2 beta came out and been playing sc2 almost purely since .
