If you laptop has a good CPU but a bad GPU (as many laptops do), you can try playing some of your old gamecube games using Dolphin http://www.dolphin-emulator.com/. It works pretty well for me (and combined with a USB xbox360 controller it feels pretty good, too). There are also emulators for older systems which tend to be lighter on CPU requirements. If you have friends to LAN with, OpenArena http://openarena.ws/smfnews.php (a free, open-source Quake 3 Arena clone) is great. It has pretty much no system requirements and is free, which is great. IDK if anyone plays it online (I haven't ever tried, we just used to play it at LANs). There are some good mods for Quake 3 (I recommend World of Padman).

Baldur's Gate: Complete Baldur's Gate II: Complete Planescape: Torment They are all 50% off on www.gog.com at the moment. They are from around 2000, will run on just about anything and are simply stunning games if you have any interest in RPGs at all. Each game is up for 4.99. Just silly not to buy them for that price.

Or a wiki like liquipedia with a list of all the units and stuff? Is there a website like TL for wc3? Do most people play on iccup? etc. etc. I asked a lot of these same questions once upon a time and I learned a bunch of things. Try sorting through here. I never compiled anything into the OP but a lot of people were super helpful and gave a lot of good information/resources etc.

Also Terraria, sandbox minecraft-ish game in 2d (in case you didn't know about it) Steam also has a ton of indie games with low reqs, ones I personally strongly recommend are Jamestown (a horizontal bullethell game if you're into those), Fractals, or any of the BIT.TRIP games.
