So I bought Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for my PS3 a week ago, and I decided to replay MGS2 first. The last time I finished it, I was pretty young and didn't understand most of the stuff that the game discussed.

After finishing the game again, I can safely say the game is more of a mind fuck than Inception.

The prime example of mindfuck;

I still have yet to play 4 (also bought that)... but I assume more mindfuck occurs.

I watched Chip Cheezum and General Ironicus LP all the games and I can safely say it's just extremely silly and dumb lol

edit: I liked Inception but I couldn't call it a mind fuck... Probably because it took a lot of ideas from Solaris (I don't know about the movie, but the book it did) but didn't develop on them as much and so just kind of seemed like a cheap version of solaris with MATRIX DREAMS. lol. and a dumb 'or was iiiit???' ending... hahahaha

4 took me about 9 playthroughs to figure out what was going on ;s.

Omg, MGS2, my least favourite out of the series. I didn't know wtf was going on at the time I played that game, it was messed up and at the end I didn't even care anymore, I just wanted to finish the game. I don't think I'll be replaying that (or maybe I will...I've been thinking about getting the HD collection, it'll be nice to play MGS3 on the PS3 instead of busting out the PS2).
I didn't really feel mindfucked in MGS4, a lot of stuff happens but I didn't think it was mindfucking or inception like.

Oh yeah.

Fuck... yeah.

I remember playing through the end of MGS2. It was night time. I had spent hours on it already. Then everything turns insane and my frigging game tells my I've been playing for too long, and I should turn the console off.
While displaying false game over screens. While the in-game instructor tells me about his last restaurant meal.

Just. Pure. WTF. It's like the essence of WTF. It's like being in a dark room and a giant chair asks you to be his date on Thankstaking day.

And then, philosophy. My first introduction into contemporary philosophy of the new virtual era. The first serious criticism of mass-media I saw done by a mass-medium itself.

To anyone who has not played through the end of MGS 2. Do it. You might not like the game. But that part is history.
I'm actually reading Philosophy of video games, and the epilogue... follows this ending as an example. Pretty sick, I tell you.

I completely worship that video gaming moment. I could sacrifice someone to it.

Have to say that MGS2 is my least favorite as well.MGS3 was the best considering everything. The story, gameplay, graphics, and I was never really a fan of Raiden.
The best part of MGS2 imo was the tanker episode.Loved doing speed runs on that one, makes me wan't to bust out the ps2 right now.

Something like this+ Show Spoiler +

I think my best time was like 10:10 or something, couldn't do Olga fast enough like that dude.
Aiming in MGS2 is a bit harder than in MGS3.

Metal Gear Solid 2 was pretty scrappy in comparison to the others, except for the ending. Personally, I enjoyed MGS2's ending more than all of the other games, it was so intense. I still remember when I played through the first time, the chills I got during Raiden's Codec with Colonel at the end... So awesome. I can't wait to play through MGS2 and 3 again, with luck I'll be getting the HD collection soon ^___^

Hopefully you enjoy MGS4, its a badass game. It doesn't really have the same gameplay, but it is still very, very good. Great replay value too, I have almost 18 playthroughs, and I'm still not tired of it! :D

mgs4 decides to wait till the last 10 minutes before throwing all the mindfuck at you. At least MGS2 had the decency to do it with less volume. That being said, the ending for MGS2 is thoroughly enjoyable. Although I have to say, mgs3 is the best and most complete package of all. Boss fights were awesome, story was gripping and well executed, music was epic, gameplay is just as solid as it ever was, and character cast is memorable as hell.

Man, I actually bought the original trilogy for PS1/PS2 from a used game store near-by to learn that the HD remake was coming out 4 months later.

I've only played through the first one so far, and if I thought I got mind-fucked when Master or whoever turned out to be Liquid Snake (LOL), I guess I'm not into anything, yet.

Also funny was when you're fighting Psycho Mantis and my big flat-screen TV freaks out and displays HIMEO with a black screen. That made me laugh a little, haha. Would've been better if I was in my room, because then I might've been tricked. :p

I was around 12 when I played this first time and most things went way over my head back then, would probably be the same if I replayed it now...

My first MGS was the first game and I bought MGS2 without reading anything about it but I had played the tanker demo before that so I was awfully confused when Snake had blonde hair coming from the breathing mask when starting the plant...

Regarding the first video:
I highly, highly recommend "Brave New World" by Huxley if this topic interests you.
Oh yea, and by that, 1984 is obligatory as well.

I never played MSG(well, the first part on PS actually), but I was always amazed by it's political influenced story-design. It's really a mastgerpiece.

MGS4 was basically mind fuck the movie

You'll see what I mean by "the movie".
But I am a huge fan of the series, been playing it since I was like 6 years old back in '98 or whenever the first one came out.

ps. that first video will make 100% more sense when you play through MGS4

I once saw a picture, which for the life of me I can't find again, that had the box art of MGS4 with "Playable Edition" photoshopped onto it. Pure brilliance.

But even for a movie/game hybrid, it's still amazing. It's definitely only for hardcore fans of the series though.

Actually this is why MGS2 is such an interesting piece. The majority of the mindfuck comes from playable things: the map doesn't work (tells you you are in a "stomach" or a "leg"), the major calls you non-stop to tell you about giants space worms and that he " need[s] Scissors! 61!", so many things that leave the player speechless.

MGS4 doesn't follow through on the promise of MGS2.

Oh shi- patriots have been dead? Ok, let's do MGS3...

where we deus ex in some bullshit to tie the original NES game into the overarching story so that we can pretend it was all our thought all along

Then let's do MGS4...

Where we try to make MGS3 worthwhile and follow through on the amazing cliffhanger of MGS2 to absolutely no success.

The best part of MGS4 is the graphics and the amazing last fight. Everything else failed imho.

Yeah.. when I first started playing MGS2 alone (a friend and I would take turns playing it through~) that part you bolded seriously scared the crap outta me I was 12 and at that time it was just so freaky lol~ it was at night too (((((( But as curious as I am I kept calling the Colonel over and over just to listen to more mindfuck stories... especially the part where he was talking about driving or something? That story literally made me go "THE FUCK?" Also if you notice Rose's eyes change to a white / light blue color.. damn so good I love MGS2.

I'm gonna agree only with MGS4 on this part lol the others don't even compare to it~ Man MGS is just a beautiful series... just the atmosphere it has it's so good mm..

Also GTR have you ever spammed called people in MGS2? You get some really really interesting stories depending on when you call and how frequent during the game~ especially from Rose LOL. Have you ever used the directional microphone thing to uncover some funny scenes as well?
Oh and wtf did they do to Raiden in MGS4? They like completely destroyed him.. not story-wise but character-wise. I forgot why they had a Rose AI too..

Ahh..mgs series <3. I actually liked 2 the best(closely tied with 3), I didnt like the feminine raiden too much, but I didnt see that as being a huge negative to the game. It has some typical kojima like speeches towards the end.

One of the best moments in the game is the part where your commander goes nuts.("You have been playing this game for far to long!, turn off your ps2 now! :D"). And also..FISSION MAILED! lolol!

The pacing of 3 is awesome, but you'll need to be a fan of the series to play that game. Felt like a james bond movie or something.
I think 4 was actually the worst of the lot, didnt have that single area/lone wolf feel to it, the claustrophobic feel of mgs was one of the best things in the series, so the openness of it felt a little weird.

I was 4 minutes too late! FISSION MAILED!

Never forget :D (Even if Raiden is a total bitch and MGS2 kinda sucked- those parts were the best.)
MGS3 was more of a favorite but by that time MGS had turned to full on crazy talk. Still, one of the greatest series of video games ever and a Metal Gear-MGS(1) is a personal favorite.

I have seen Paprika. The romance thing is definitely jacked from Solaris, it's the exact same plot just sidelined because WOWSPESHULEFFECTS (which to be honest is the only reason to watch Inception). Paprika could be called a mind fuck though, I guess. It's more just JAPANLOL to me though (not in a derogatory way, but in a I recognise these themes and can grapple with them knowing they are Japanese way). I also have very little doubt Christopher Nolan wasn't at least a little bit inspired by the Matrix though, considering they are directed very similarly and have similar style in general. Honestly I think he said Paprika just because he wanted to seem cultured lol.

edit: not to mention how much easier it is to compare the Matrix and Inception than it is Paprika and Inception. The 'dream' attacks you when it thinks you're threat. Matrix. The question of 'are you really awake?' Matrix. Really inception is also a bit of a simplified version of the Matrix too. So basically Inception borrows from a lot of different places and simplifies them into something the dulled (by countless contentless hits) audiences of the new century can process.

I can't let an MGS thread exist without.....TIME PARADOX.

At least the developers understand just how screwed up the storyline is. Kojima is either insane or a genius. Quite possibly both.
