He's actually won one or two small tournaments though. EDIT: There was apparently a bug that made it easier to hit GM than usual (which he didn't abuse but it got him there anyway.) He lost it after that but could have kept GM status if he played more. He would have kept GM status, but that means nothing because you can't drop out of GM by losing. He got there from the bug, which is what counts. Agreed with the OP pretty much. Having that kind of dedication is uncommon, and you really need to have results before you take that kind of step.

Many really good players are even reluctant to commit to it full time as well. There are plenty of top tier players that are still attending school because they know that school is the most reliable payoff in the future.

I don't really appreciate those blogs (actually I haven't read one in awhile, maybe they died out), but I'm not about to get super judgmental about a kid's week long fantasy.

You see it everyday. Physical fitness, for example... people announce to the fucking world how in shape they're going to get, or how much weight they're going to lose, and become discouraged because running 3 miles requires too much suffering or they're not seeing 20lb gains after a week's worth of half-assed exercise and posing in front of the mirrors of their gym.

You just have to do it yourself. Edit: I have an "eSports career," which is different than a "progaming career," I suppose. =P

Polt did go to the best school in Korea, however he was a relatively unknown player and wasn't anything special. As soon as he graduated however he dedicated himself to SC and became the player you know today winning the GSL Super Tournament

As soon as he graduated however he dedicated himself to SC and became the player you know today winning the GSL Super Tournament Actually Polt WAS something before he took a break from school. He beat Boxer in Ro32?(Or 16 i forgot) in GSL open season 3 when Boxer was like the most hyped person on earth. Granted that the game was pretty undeveloped back then. But he made a name for himself while in university. He even got into PRIME(at that time). Even though he produced his first results ( Super Tournament ) after he took a break from uni but he could get into a TEAM while in school and getting pretty high up there (qualifying for GSL 2, GSL 3, staying Code S). Yeah. Back to the OP. I also HAD the same mindset of. OH I COULD BE A PROGAMER BY QUITING SCHOOL. For a week. When u calm down and realise that grinding out 50 games a day could be fun in an aspect but you wont be improving much. It takes much talent and dedication to be able to grind out 50 PRODUCTIVE games a day to improve yourselves. So yeah, this blog is awesome.
