One of the few times I'll post outside of mod forums is to tell people that they won't find a career in progaming

It's not like you can just play forever and become pro eventually- people don't have time for that, they have jobs and stuff to do.

thats exactly what you do

avoiding practice to protect your rating is absurd. if you want to be good go play 40 games a day and stop thinking about becoming a pro.

Just posting here to say I agree.

Just have fun and play in Craft cups or something. Sure you won't win 5000 dollars from that, but if you have a competition drive you can still have more than enough fun with that.

I don't know any progamers that got up one day and said to themselves "I'll be the best there is", but it definately happens in sports. Very positive outlook you got there.

Well, at least there's hope:
It's pretty hard to get into the proscene, but once you've made it it's almost impossible to get out.

People have this idea that being a progamer requires less work and dedication than another career choice because it is a "fun" job.

So, when they find themselves thinking "man I don't like working hard" they think "I know, I'll play games for a living".

Because they are fucking idiots, they don't realise how dumb this is.

Tyler made a similar statement some time ago, something like: "If you're unable to play at a competitive level while working/studying, going all-in on E-sports is a bad choice."

On the contrary Destiny managed to set himself up for a really solid monthly income, while not being a pro at the time. Nearly every professional in this industry managed to work himself up while combining it with work or school. People who aren't capable of doing this to at least some extent will probably not end up doing much at all.

Just view it as another kind of sport: If you are not really good at it very fast and while doing it as a hobby, you won't become a pro. I can't deceide to become a Tennis pro from scratch in the next year either.

Well we can all agree that becoming a pro gamer is no easy task, you have to give it all you got. You can become a pro gamer at any time if you have the motivation, but 99 percent of these kids who say they will are only doing it for the short term, they dont have the persistence necessary.

Agree completely. All these "road to GM" from bronze - gold players are starting to become an eye sore. I don't hate them it's just kind of hard not to post "yeah right let me know how that goes for you." every single time =/

One of the most sensible blogs I've seen here. All these "Im going pro" blogs are really fuckin retarded for so many reasons, some of which are mentioned in this blog.

For fuck sake most of us don't even try hard in our work/uni/school.
How people believe that they will just get the right dedication in a flick of a switch is beyond me.
My dick has shrunk to the point where it looks like I have 3 balls.
