Update: OH MY GOD!
It's back up!
+ Show Spoiler +Already, only been 24 hours!
Oops I entired my Full name First Middle Last instead of just First Last and then add a nickname (Middle) xD
Anyways I'm archiving my FB now (backup), and then will try to change name.
Some reason it doesn't let me specify what new name I want when I change, instead there is a little scroll down bar with a couple options. Middle Last, Lim Yo-Hwan. Amazing! So basically they allow me to try to change back to the old names?
THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR HELP! <3

Hey all, I just found out that my Facebook got disabled for not using a real name.
This concerns me because I used a fake name in order to avoid colleges stalking me, but apparently Facebook does have privacy settings that stops that from happening?
Anyways the problem is, since my name was Lim Yo-Hwan (hahaha i know), and I posted on Husky's status and replied to someone by saying "no, i'm not the real boxer" (or something like that), someone probably reported me, and I'm guessing if someone reports you and your name is on their blacklist (which I just found out about) they automatically disable your account without even checking.
First of all this is dumb cus why can't they just give you 24 hours or even more to let you verify? Why do they have to disable it first? Yeah I know it's their website they can do what they want, but what if they make a mistake?
tl;dr
Anyways the dilemna is this.
When my parents named me, my current middle name should have been my first name. This is because they planned on calling me by that name and they continue to do so; everyone at school calls me by this name, too. The [stupid] reason why they made this my middle name instead of my first name is because apparently, my FULL name sounded better when read as First Middle Last (like now) rather than if they named me properly, Middle First Last.
So the point of having a "real" facebook name is to make things credible, but it's also to help you connect with people. No one's gonna find me since they don't really know my official first name.
Since I have to upload a government ID to prove my name is real, what do you think TL? Should I upload my real ID and then try to change my name later to my middle name? (They say that once the account is verified and given back, they delete the ID, hopefully meaning that they have no record of what your real name was)
Or should I try to edit the ID to have my middle name?
Either way there's a chance that I will get warned/banned/deleted, though the first option seems safer as long as no one reports me (people change their names on FB all the time). I just hate my First name, hope you all understand, because it has never been a real name of mine and does not feel comfortable.
On a side note, I was thinking that perhaps the 2nd option of editing my ID would not be that dangerous, since they probably don't give a good look at the ID, if at all, before re-verifying you. If they truly delete your ID, how will they know if it's fake?
Thanks so much in advance for any advice!

Oh man, yoshi. What have you got yourself into? Do you really need Facebook to live with your life? If yes, then upload an ID
|
interesting that the text following tl;dr is longer than the text before it

Is it possible to delete Facebook Accounts? I made a Facebook account and a bunsh of people added me, but i don't want to socialize too much, so is there a way to delete it? (i didn't found anything under options and such)
|
you need to understand that your perception of your own name is so completely out of wack compared to other peoples perception of it (which is generally 1000% neutral, or entirely based on what they think about you rather than what the name sounds/looks like)

Check under the account settings etc.
Edit: Someone please PM me what tl:dr means. LOL. Not joking.
|
you can delete it easily, google to find out................
|
I have several people who changed their display name to whatever random shit they choose. All you need is your real name to register.
|
That's kinda lame... being forced to use your 'slave name', as Artosis puts it, is not the kind of shit I want to see on social networks.
|
Hm well I don't see any reason to delete my account, I'll probably do option number 1 for now, but I really don't want to be stuck with my first name, so I'm wondering if anyone has had personal experience with this.

Wow that's really lame. Maybe... upload an edited version of your gov't ID that says your name is Lim Yo Hwan? Say you're not boxer but you just have the same name :D

TL;DR this properly

Well if they really have privacy settings then I guess I'll go ahead and not bother editing an ID... I'll just make a secondary account with my middle name, maybe transition into using that as a main so I don't risk losing all the memories on my first <3
But I think they must be aware of past names somehow. If I "proved" my name is Lim Yo-Hwan but someone reports me again, would they just have my account be disabled again? Maybe they'll see a previous incident and think I'm lying again and then just delete my account or permanently change my name.

tl;dr do not necessarily have to be shorter. The overall work as a whole is shorter since I omit background/other info, therefore it is tl;dr, thanks.

Why don't you just create a new FB account with fake name...?
|
I love the idea of a TL;DR being longer than the foreword. It defeats lazy people; someone wanting to skip the first part and read the summary is instead forced to read more than what they tried to skip. Ingenious.
Yoshi, my advice is to simply wean yourself off of Facebook. Too many people have an unhealthy attachment to finding out what sort of cereal their pretend online friends are eating, or some other such inane thing. Take this incident as a sign, and realize that your time is better spent on more productive activities. Cut down to maybe 30 minutes or less on Facebook every day (preferably less), and you'll come out ahead in the end.
Thank me later.

Then I can't access any of my old information =/
Nevermind though guys, I've figured out what to do. I'll just not bother photoshopping my ID, upload the real one, then use one of these awesome facebook account archivers ( wow I'm amazed by these, they automatically save all your photos, notes, messages, etc. etc. to your PC! amazing! )
And then try to change my name back to Middle First Last. If that fails then it's ok cus I have all my previous info <3

kekekek
Anyways, I'm trying out ways to restrict my fb time, so 30 minutes seems feasible :D

FB has a history of not respecting their users. Don't use their service.

oh lol i know you sucks that they terminated your account miss having lim yo-hwan on my friends list
edit: i don't think he can argue that he has the same name if his profile pic was boxer?

=O Nah must be a different one. So it seems they terminated a wave of Lim Yo-Hwans? xD
I guess it might just be coincidence that i got disabled now, not that I happened to post on Husky's status and that 1 douche on fb who kept telling me to change my name lol (very rudely)
Anyways aren't you the one who made Island Defense for SC2? I have u added on my SC2 FL lol

Well that sucks...START THE NEW WAVE of deleting facebooks. Just tell people "FB thats kiddy shit, the new wave is TWITTER" (I dont even have a twitter)

I do too It is really frustrating. I do not have to give a lengthy explanation to people whenever I meet them... ugh lol. Idk about you but in USA I think when you "come of age" at age 18, when you get a new ID and such, it is a bit easier to change your name since you're getting new stuff anyways. I think I have to fill out a few pages documents only and page $80 or so. Not bad, eh? :D I think I'll do that. I don't know about Australia though.
Good luck!
College professor: INSERT NAME HERE, are you ready to present?
After class: Hey INSERT ANNOYING NAME HERE wassup
Me: Oh, please don't call me that <insert annoying name>, just call me my middle name...
Them: Oh, why?
Me: Well you see, <Insert 250 word explanation> lol...

FYI privacy settings or not, facebook will give your info out to college, employers, police, which is why they "require" your actual name. If you are truly concerned with your college and future employers not looking at your profile, id create a new one, i have a feeling once you upload the id you're gonna be boned.
As a second thought, I just wouldn't put anything on your facebook. I personally haven't changed anything on my profile since facebook started giving away info to the highest bidder, so aside from photos that are uploaded from other people and changing my profile pic now and again, I don't intend on making any changes to my profile.
As far as "deleting" your facebook goes, your account basically goes inactive, but any information that was in your profile is archived in their database including friends, pictures, etc, and again could be obtained by anyone that has the access to it.
|
This same thing happened to Tobold @ tobolds.blogspot.com
I think you're mistaken with how the ID thing works. They want you to provide ID that you are what the name on your account was. In Tobold's case, they want him to provide ID that he is a person named Tobold. Since he obviously can't do that, and nor can you provide ID saying you are Lim Yo Hwan, you'll not get your account back, I imagine.
|
Well I have "Unofficial English Name Official Chinese First Name Official Chinese Last Name" on my Facebook so I don't see why you couldn't just use your middle name.
Just put whatever name you want, upload the ID, see if it works, I suppose. If it doesn't then obviously use your real full name and try to change it later.
PS Your old FB name is probably still the best though.

I was afraid of this. They don't have to tell the truth after all =/ Well I don't upload any stupid pictures like drinking or anything so it shouldn't be too bad.

Lim Yo-Hwan. Obviously.
(Plus I don't even know your old name.)

I really don't understand why people come in here just to post TL;DR, why post anything at all if you didn't read?!!? Sigh, some people. Anyway, back on topic regarding facebook, that is a tricky situation. Couldn't you just make a new account? I know it is a lot of effort, but surely it would make the most sense? That way you could just avoid the whole situation. Facebook can be silly like that, they banned my friend when he tried to change his date of birth (to avoid upcoming birthday wishes) and despite emailing them they didn't respond with anything helpful.

O frick =/ lol. Perhaps I should not have been so hasty... One option I have right now is to send multiple requests; since I already sent one with my MiddleName LastName, perhaps I should try Lim Yo Hwan as well (they let you send multiple requests though they say it won't be any faster if you send more than one). They probably have more than 1 person looking through these requests, so perhaps if they don't reactivate my account after looking at one, someone else might see the other one and activate it? Once again it's risky though =/

hehe yeah I know amirit?
I'm ok with making a new account, I just don't want to lose all my pictures, videos, everything
And about your friend, that sucks...
Really though... unless FB happened to have a wave of banning Lim Yo-Hwans (Frolossus' friend seems to have been disabled too), what kind of an eSports loving person would report another eSports fan like that to facebook?
|
5/5 for one of the best TL;dr I have ever seen.
|
Yeah I know, the only thing I can think to suggest is to download all your photos off of that account (even if you're logged in as someone else) and have them re-uploaded on your new account, and retag the ones of you that friends had tagged previously under Lim Yo Hawn. Sorry it isn't very helpful, good luck with this! (Also whoever reported you is clearly an enemy of e-sports!)
|
I would suggest just creating a new account with another e-mail account. Then you won't have to go through the hassle. Just create a new e-mail account for Facebook signing in purposes
