My blog, at its base purpose, will have me discussing a topic, event or situation that I will give my perspective on among other things. Everyone has an opinion, and as much as I enjoy sharing mine, seeing people's reactions and thoughts on it is just as entertaining.
But since this is my inaugural edition, I will at least start with an introduction of who I am, and how I came to be here at TL. I apologize in advance for the length; I know people sometimes have a hard time dealing with lengthy blogs/posts.
------------------------------------
My name is Matt DiVito; I'm 25 years old and live in Ontario, Canada. I'm currently back living at home to help my family out through a difficult time, both financially and mentally (as well as to fix some of my debt issues as well). The details of which I don't necessarily need to keep a secret, but there are better things to write about or discuss on here.
I've been playing video games for the majority of my life, and have been involved in competitive gaming for close to 11 years. My first foray into competitive gaming was with Counter-Strike. Being new to the scene way back in the day, I started off actually as an admin for a local organization called TFL; the Toronto Fun League.
Over the years of being an admin, as well as competing at these LANs, I grew fond of eSports as a movement and let my mind explore the possibilities. This led me to combine my passion for gaming and eSports, with another of my passions, writing. I turned to posting a lot on forums, not only about my ideas and goals, but having a critical mind to evaluate and deliberate over certain goings-on.
Now, I had originally written out all my stops and positions I've had in regards to eSports, but it was ridiculously long. I'll just short-form my positions:
Admin - TFL
Feature Writer - Amped News (semi-morphed into GameRiot eventually)
Head of Professional CS 1.6 - CEVO
News and Feature Writer - GotFrag
News and Feature Writer - Complexity Gaming
News and Feature Writer - ESFI
So there, was practically almost 11 years worth of time spent doing what I could in eSports. Those last stints in GotFrag and Complexity really burned me out, and without a monetary incentive to help justify the time I was putting in, I really just shut down from eSports in general. There was a point where I wasn't really even playing any games anymore (outside of simple little games like Blur, NFS: Undercover, or sometimes with CS through ESEA).
By the time I was getting an itch back, Starcraft 2 was about to be released. Now, my previous experience with RTS only really involved AoE and WC3 for the most part, while I played BW maybe once or twice. I thought that giving SC2 a good shot would help and I was excited about a new game in general, given that I hate games like CoD, etc... I'm a very picky person when it comes to games.
As with most people, my involvement with SC2 eventually lead me to Team Liquid. I started lurking and reading as much as I could to discover and acclimate myself with this new and strange community. Having been part of CS and GotFrag as a community for all those years, the differences are quite large and it's taken a bit of getting used to overall.
Anyways, being here at TL and having my silver league skills slowly improving, I'm getting my contribution itch back for the SC2 and TL community. Hopefully, this blog will go part of the way to doing that, as I find just where I want to put my focus, and what I can bring to an organization, site, or forum.
Thanks for reading! If anyone has any questions or suggestions about topics or issues for a future blog, feel free to ask or suggest away; it's the least I can do.
