Recently i finally hit Masters league after playing the game seriously for about 8 months. I was extremely happy and very satisfying after a very very long road to masters from having a backround of little to no RTS experience, let alone a working computer.
Earlier this year around Feb, i was i believe Sliver League, i played casually. I made it my goal to hit masters league and try to get into the game competitively by the beginning of this year. Surprisingly i hit my goal earlier than expected even with all the setbacks. before i go into more details i'm just gonna go over my gaming history really quick so you can get a quick understanding where i'm coming from.
Before SC2 i played Super Smash Brothers Brawl competitively. I went to tons and tons of tournament did ok sometimes did poorly some of the time. Generally i placed well in 2v2 bracket usually placing top 3. Even during the MLG period for SSBB i was at some of the events trying to do well (i got mediocre placings). Honestly they were really good memories and expericing i've been all up and down the United States from Maine to Florida for tournaments. Not to mention i've meet so many great people that i still talk to and hang out with to this day and i've even met my girlfriend of 1 year through SSBB. So you can tell it means a lot to me however the game is..basically... dead. Theres not much hype behind it anymore and no more incentive to improve. Its a very boring game and most of the top players are dropping out of the game competitively as it is. With tournament attendance dropping to around 20-30 people for locals and maybe 60 people for a national/regional? I decided to just move on to bigger and better games.
So for a while i played Super Street Fighter 4. I was ok, nothing special mediocre average online playing trying to improve and i even had a stick! and i also played TvC and other fighting games too! However one fatal flaw happened one day. My xbox360 red ringed on me. So there goes me trying to pursue that. So i figured jeez i need a game to really get into or life is just boring for me. So then i was looking at my old World of warcraft account one day when i saw starcraft 2. Now i had no idea how big sc2 was or even the pro scene behind it, to me honestly i thought the only hype blizzard game was warcraft 3 and WoW (ignorant me). So i decided to get sc2 and i really enjoyed it so i played casually.
So for like 4-5 months i played casually and i stopped playing because of League of legends. During my time casually i was a Gold Zerg player but thats because i just 6 pool'd to gold (LOL). I quit playing Sc2 because simply i had a shitty computer. 13 fps at the start of the game and 0 fps by mid game. It was UNBEARABLE.
So by the beginning of this year i got a laptop that played sc2 on low settings without any lag. Of course you can tell i was pumped and i quit league of shitty legends immediately and really decided to get into sc2 and actually try to use this site and all that bullshit. So then i was thinking, should i stick to zerg or switch races? when i came back i was absolutely ass anyway so it didnt matter when all i knew how to do was 6pool. So i sat down and looked through day9, sc2 posts, teamliquid posts, gsl history and etc. I'm a competitively player by nature and i do whatever it takes to win (i mained metaknight, wario and snake in ssbb top tier characters) so i decided
I'm going to main TERRAN!
So i began trying to use terran which is the undisputed best race (not by any means OP just the best race). Immediately i realized. i completely sucked and got demoted to bronze quicker than you can say Allied you fucking suck. So from About Feb -> Now i spent that time, everyday studying, practicing and perfecting as much as i can to improve my gameplay i figured i would see if i can even hit masters league.
During my Journey i even tried to do online tournaments i only did 3 total. 1 when i was in platinum i got last place then when i was in Diamond League i decided to do Complexity Gaming's Diamond Down tournament, Grand Prize was a PNY GTX 580 liquid cooled graphics card! and 2nd place got a PNY XLR8 8GB (2x4GB) DD3 1600 memory kit. I managed to place 4th out of 181 entrants. Losing terribly in semi finals 3-0 i was so depressed that i couldn't get it because that would of help me solved my computers problems considering each item prize was valued at around 600+ dollars easily. It was a extremely good experience though not to mention i only got 2nd place at another Diamond tournament.
So now i finally hit masters.. now what? I'm kinda stumped as to what to do. Right now i'm trying to really master late game matchups, when to do what. generally mechanics to be a flawless player. However i'm not too sure how to improve other than ladder and practice partners.
Currently the problems i'm having right now is
My laptop that i have for sc2 i realized still isn't at the fps i want to improve. I lag late game too much (can't target fire, kiting is really sloppy and etc)
Trying my best to stay improving.
TvP Late Game
What is my goal now?
However i hope to keep playing and improving i just wish i knew where i was going with this now. Idk if i could become a pro gamer anymore i don't think i have what it takes however i would like to see how far i could go, even if i could casually enter tournaments or whatever like how i did in ssbb and place really well that would be great but i have a feeling that wont happen and i'm going to have to keep my dedication going to get on the very top.
so lets see =/
