I had completely forgotten what people who REALLY don't know how to play the game are like. I'm not talking like, push too far in their lane and get ganked, or don't knoww how to last hit. I'm talking, don't know champion abilities or what a teamfight is. Oddly enough, two of three games I played last night (where I queued with a level 28 friend) really enforced my disbelief in elo hell.
Game #1: I solo mid Kass against an AP Janna. Having never faced this matchup before I was ready for anything. I go 5-0 in 15 min or so. Janna using her tornado to try and hit me, not creeps, me baiting out her shield, bad Monsoon use, etc. Then I realized (as I often forget in higher level games) that I hadn't helped our top or bottom duo lanes yet (we had no jungler, surprise surprise), which usually causes me to lose games even though I'm personally doing well. Long story short, 11-0-9 final with players on their team thinking I was a pro or some shit.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to brag here, just a realization that given a high enough disparity in skill level, anyone can carry a team to victory. If you can't carry your team, you're not good enough and must get better. Now obviously I can only reliably carry this hard when I'm playing with low level players, but even then, fellow QQers, it's NOT a guarantee. Enter game #2.
Me: Welp, I played one champ I'm pretty good at and snowballed, let's do it with a different one. Solotop Nasus. This time, their team has no jungler, ours is a first time Jarvan. I figure, whatever, I'll farm Q all day top then 1v5 their team at 20 min or so.
No, instead I had to go against another Nasus and a support/AP Nunu who would just toss snowballs at me if I stepped even an inch out from behind my turret. Like, they were diving my shit at level 3. Now you think to yourself, easy job for a jungler amirite? Not for first time Jarvan. And I don't blame the guy, he was new, plus he listened when I told him just to lane with me so I can at least get something done. But by that point it was way too late. By the time I caught up in farm bot already lost 2 towers and when I went to keep stopping their split push Irelia and their Nunu was nowhere, they refused to fight 4v3 'cause they wewre terrified. Like, at one point Nunu comes up into our top blue jungle, completely on his own when out team is nearby. He runs past me so I chase him to Veigar, assuming the stun combo is coming so I can catch him and buy time for the rest of the team to come gank. What does Veigar do? He runs his little ass off. No concept of ganking, splitpushing, defence, farming, anything. At one point Jarvan commented that he can't catch anything 'cause of Kass's and Ez's 'stupid flash' while Veigar commented that they have built-in flashes. In any case, I didn't really rage, I was more frustrated that I couldn't carry that game because of my 1v2 top situation...given a true solo lane I probably would have been able to.
I was reading a post the other day on the LoL General Forums (shudder) where someone commented that he wishes he could go back to where he was learning everything all over again and didn't know about metagame, jungling, any of that. After that game I found myself sort of missing the same thing. Ah, to be completely ignorant of strategy and player skill...
I think I may play a few more games with my friend and just practice carrying in various situations. Obviously I will be able to carry more often at this level due to lower skill, but at least it will give me a chance to sit back and consider what the best way to carry is and analyze what I could be doing at a slower pace, knowing if I screw up it'll still be easy to come back and win.

I think the two most important ways your understanding of the game evolves are as follows:
-A noob thinks the measure of his progress is levels (or maybe it just evens out so that the more important part becomes...); a better player realizes that the measure of his progress is gold earned -A noob thinks the goal of the game is to score hero kills; a better player knows that the goal of the game is to secure tower kills
Haha, about your Jungle Jarvan story. I had the same thing happen to me once when I was playing Singed against Amumu/someone else. I could not come out from the tower period or I would get instagibbed. I don't know if it was mine or the jungler's fault, but it was pretty sad.
I recently quit because I just can't stand when we ace the other team and the whole team just runs off and dicks around instead of securing objectives. I don't care if we win, it's not worth playing like that.

At low levels, if you are going to solo top, it is important to choose a champion that can 1v2 well, because oftentimes the other team will not have a jungler. And your jungler may or may not assist you, because he's low level.
If you want to carry low level games, mid is absolutely the best place to do it. You are guaranteed a 1v1 so if you outskill your opponent you should be able to get many kills + freefarm.
Playing a champion that snowballs well is also better than playing one that requires a lot of farm, because in low level games the laning phase breaks down extremely fast. People will lose their towers in other lanes, causing the enemies to start roaming for ganks before you get your core items. Or your teammates will just come to your lane for no reason because they are losing theirs. If you are in a duo lane, your ally will autoattack, spam AOE on creeps, and generally push like a mofo. So don't count on getting farm. Kills are a much better source of gold.
In short, you lost your second game due to not understanding the low level metagame. Solo top Nasus = bad. Solo mid Kassadin = good.
I smurf a decent amount and when I do, Poppy is my champion of choice because she doesn't require much farm to get rolling, but can absolutely destroy unskilled/unaware players. Low level players have no idea how to deal with her ult or position themselves away from walls.

In short, you lost your second game due to not understanding the low level metagame. Solo top Nasus = bad. Solo mid Kassadin = good. You pretty much nailed it here I guess. I didn't want to assume that I would always get solo mid though and start a fight with somebody, especially since that seems to be the most 'prestigious' position in low level games. 'Low level metagame' made me giggle, though.
I recently quit because I just can't stand when we ace the other team and the whole team just runs off and dicks around instead of securing objectives. I don't care if we win, it's not worth playing like that. Not a good reason to quit, imo. Give it another go! I would suggest finding a solid group of 4 others to play with if you don't want to worry about herding teammates...sadly that is just how a lot of games are if you want to carry at higher levels. Gotta try to overcome those egos/bad plays with calm soothing logic.

This, it's what happens when a level 30 decides to make a smurf everytime, regardless of server. I distinctly remember a Kayle who somehow carried 20/0 with getting Boots 5, Stark's, and a whole bunch of AD carry items. Mind you, this was back when Malady had +50 attack speed and 15% lifesteal. Yeah, it was a loooong time ago, but my point still stands.
Get to level 30 1300+ elo, then report back. :D

From my 1300+ experience at the end of season 1 it wasn't too bad. I was able to carry pretty hard as a jungle (went 19 and 6 with nocturne season 1) and snatched my gold/jarvan skin. I'm not sure how high I actually am because I only played the 40 games or so that it took me to hit the rating, but nonetheless I definitely felt some games that were helpless and others that I wasn't even needed. Overall I felt that I played a large roll in making me win 2/3rds of my games, and that it wasn't just dumb luck.
