A friend and I were talking about how many players from Slayers are in Code S next season. For the record, he's a die-hard Red Sox fan and I'm a Yankees fan.
He goes, "They are the Cardinals of the GSL. Can't say the Red Sox or the Yankees." I ask, "Then who is the Pujols of the GSL?" And he answers, "MMA."
And I start thinking.
Evil Geniuses are really the Yankees of eSports, right? That's clear from their spending. TeamLiquid is the pre-2004 Red Sox - hometown favorites but not a lot of success recently. (Really, HuK is like Johnny Damon - wins Dreamhack / HomeStory Cup (2004 WS) and then gets bought up by the Yankees.  )
TSL (with their top-notch coach, but lack of contracts and low pay yet the occasional excellent result) would be Tampa Bay Rays or maybe Florida Marlins.
What are your thoughts on IM, FXO, and the other pro-gaming teams out there?

I think if EG is the Yankees then Complexity by default is the Red Sox based on rivalry alone.
I think I like IM as the Brewers, mainly for the Braun/Fielder duo which is similar to the MVP/Nestea duo.
I want to say FXO is the Cubs - everyone roots for them to do well and they have flashes of great players/seasons/results but ultimately are forgotten about when things matter most (big tournament results/postseason).
This is actually really hard and I see my NL Central bias coming out so I'll just call it quits here lol.

pujols is not mma. mma has a tricksy, multitasking style. pujols just owns you straight up by being really good against all pitches, especially fastball (fundamentals).
mma is more like...josh hamilton or maybe robbie cano and his free swinging ways.
btw, SKT1 = yankees duh
KTF = red sox
boxer = babe ruth
oov = gehrig
only thing lacking is an equivalent great for Flash. maybe pedro aka the best pitcher ever. but really, flash is barry bonds in his prime.

I haven't been in touch with BW in a very long time but I always saw KTF as the yankees to the SKT1 sox, as (at least when I followed) KTF's players were all the big names bought mid-prime.
Or is my memory warped?
EDIT: I can't comment on personal players as I don't know anything about baseball.

flash is CC Sabathia. If you've seen him pitch you'd know how crazy dominate that guy is. if he has a save opertunity coming into the 8th or 9th innning you can bet your house he will get the save.

since mo is probably my favorite current player i don't think anyone on t1 right now deserves that comparison. maybe in an alternative universe in which fantasy manages to win all of his ace matches he ever played in.

well, savior = rose is probably appropriate.
but you have to realize that barry bonds at his prime dominated baseball like no one else before in the modern game, a time with the highest skilled level of play. flash did/is doing the same thing and that dominance is the most important feature of his career.
