modding it is freaking amazing. Specially with mikeymike and gtg having switched over the to the SGS2. Benefits of modding include but are not limited to increased responsiveness, faster processing, longer battery life, more practical/organized UI, better modem connection (internet/calling/signal strength), better app memory management, better minfree management, faster loading/multi-tasking. On top of the more system centralised things, you can make it really pretty. Lots of the custom roms that you can flash onto your SGS2 come with their own spiffy UI tweaks to make things more shiny. Naturally, you'll get root permission in the process of doing so which opens you up to a plethora of new apps to help manage the system. My infuse is overclocked from 1.2ghz to 1.6 ghz on the conversative governer. This doesn't mean that its at 1.6 all the time, but when it wants some extra speed, it won't hesitate to clock up a little bit (nice for emulating the PSX on my phone). A number of other apps require root permission to access system things like calender etc. with regard to your typing, are you using swype? the latest beta version should be 3.25 and it has a good number of improvements compared to before. the stock swypes tend to be a little altered so i don't know how well thats working. | ||

It also lets you use root explorer = great for deleting the bloatware off your phone. Simply navigate to the system/apps folder and delete the apk along with the libcore file and you're golden. It also lets you clear cache + dalvik cache which will give you a noticeable speed boost (i do it once a month). | ||
