I haven't had time on my hands at all for bw or visiting this site since college just started and as all college students are, we are always busy with work. But while all this happened, I had to live with perhaps one of the most annoying things in my life that I kept up with since I was a very young boy.
Since I was like 10+ I had dandruff problems. Bad dandruff problems. The real issue with it wasn't really the flaky skin that I was annoyed with but rather the effects that came with it. Every time I perspired, my scalp would itch. A lot. And many times, it happened in public. The natural reaction would be to scratch it since its so itchy but it wasn't appropriate to do that in public. It basically feels like having a small stinging itch on your back except that it was all over my head. It was so bad that sometimes I had to go to the toilet just to ease of the itch and then resume back to class.
As you know, I'm asian and asian people love spicy food. I did but the problem with the dandruff was that eating chili would cause me to perspire and it would itch while I ate. And scratching while eating is.. well unless you would want extra 'flavor' and more 'food' to eat, then it wouldn't be a good idea and it isn't very pleasing either.
And now comes the grand finale. The flaky skin. Yes. Most of the time the flakiness was okay. It wasn't as bad as some days but some days FUCK man. I almost thought it was snowing on some days at 30 degrees C. This also meant that I refrained from wearing black clothes because well.. a dandruff problem was not something you would like to show off to everyone.
I lived with this for many years. And many times during those years, it felt quite bad because it was a simple problem yet it was such an annoyance to my life. Sometimes it itched so much that there were almost tears because it was really stinging. I went to doctors and tried different kinds of shampoos but nothing worked. All the medication didn't work.
I have always thought of my father to be unconventional. He was very skilled with his wood and craft work and he always saw things in a different angle and always came up with good ideas. So one day, he went up to me and said "How bout you try eating some multi-vitamins?". And I thought okay, worth a shot since those things weren't very expensive and are supplements anyway so its not like I need a prescription from a doctor. I went to the pharmacy and bought one bottle. 20 fucking dollars, got home, ate a pill and went about with my life.
The next day. WTF. I can safely say more than 80% of my dandruff was gone. The itch was still there but it was probably 10% of its usual intensity. So I decided to test it just to see if I was playing tricks on myself. I scratched my scalp and combed my hair through my fingers many times. WTF it was real. Too real to believe. I decided to test it again.
I went to eat spicy food.
I didn't just get a plate of rice and took a small saucer of chili. I ordered a fucking squid with hot chili seed sauce filled in its body and took a whole bite. It was so spicy my ears went out for a while and WTF. The itch was probably 10%. I was perspiring like a mad dog but WTF it didn't itch as much as it would usually be.
The shocking thing was that it took such a short time. Normally it would be normal belief that medication needs time probably a few weeks before things settle in but this was insanely fast.
Somehow, I had been malnourished all these years. It never occurred to me because living here in a developed country and being able to have 3 meals a day eliminated that notion altogether. The itch and flaky skin is still there but is probably only 20% of what it used to be. I am so thankful to God that it was such a simple solution.
Anyway, I am celebrating my 21st today. So gna eat those fkin chili seeds.
Grats. I don't have dandruff, but I have crohn's disease, and any time that flares and I have to watch what I eat, it fucking kills me. I'm from Texas, so I grew up on spicy Tex-mex, spicy, greasy BBQ... yeah. Not being able to eat delicious stuff for a medical reason blows. No matter what, I have to avoid Thai peppers now, but most of the time I'm good for most of it.
Although spicy food on your 21st is a terrible idea. Makes the inevitable alcohol induced vomit-fest much worse. I still remember losing 30 wings all over the side of my buddy's car at 70MPH after a bunch of Sam Adams, and two each 3 wisemen and 4 horsemen.

lol! the people behind must have gotten a good car wash
Anyways, congrats! I had bad dandruff for a long time, so I know how you feel. I don't know how mine went away, but better nutrition might have played a part in it as well.

Uhm, well, I had the convenience of a Friday 21st, and it was a military town. There was almost nobody else on the road, since the (horrid) shots made sure I made it nowhere near last call.
Three Wise Men is Jack Jim and Jose, Four Horsemen adds Jameson. Or maybe I have it mixed, but those are the various liquors, served as a double at least. Horrendous.

Wow. I'm in somewhat of a same situation, though much less serious. My family has a long history of diabetes that's been recorded in every generation. I won't be able to consume any significant amount of sugar in about five years.

To the OP: Congratulations!
IMO, Crohn's is much better than Diabetes. I'd prefer what I have over diabetes, anyway. For me, medical issues just tie me to a bathroom, and they take time to put me in the hospital. Cheating on diet occasionally is less likely to be lethal.

Drinking age in Singapore is 18, we don't go quite as insane by the 21st :p

Ah, fair. Most people stop mentioning which birthday it is after hitting legal drinking age.
I'd probably have had a better time of it if I'd had time to eat more that day. I mostly had energy drinks and chips because of mechanical issues with my Bradley. Greasy hot wings don't always sit well as the only food all day anyways.
I would have gotten stuck with less drinks, but the waitress kept matching the shots my 2 friends ordered for me. I think if I'd been coherent, I could have made something of that. Never had the waitress pay to get me drunk before that.

haha i was going to say it was like xtasy or something along those lines, i totally thought this was going to be a bad news thread but glad to see it worked out for you. I have dandruff too but only if i don't shower for a day or two, which is almost never

Wait, how would that make it a bad news thread? Little red transformers for life, man. Just not 5 of them with 10-12 mixed drinks at a party on a cold night, sitting next to a fire pit wearing a leather jacket with a fur lined collar.
I forgot how to pee, which is awkward with that much liquor, and spent several hours staring at the fire and nuzzling my collar with my cheek.
Luckily, the people who could recognize the symptoms as not being alcohol related didn't exactly have room to talk.
I doubt you have 'dandruff'. It is almost certainly either Psoriasis or Seborrheic Dermatitis. I have Psoriasis. If you still want to get rid of the flaky itchy head 100% I suggest you give a certain shampoo a try. It's called T-GEL (by Neutrogena) which is a coal-tar treatment shampoo. Make sure it's the clear bottle one nothing else is as good.

"Dandruff" is a blanket term, which includes both of those conditions.
better watch out for those pills. you see, pills also cause other parts of your brain/body chemistry to go down, even if it appears to help in other ways. its documented scientific fact that people who take certain pills to boost mood actually become less able to feel deep and longterm emotions, like they live in a fugue or fog state, whereas without the pill they have more depression, for instance, but they're capable of more feeling overall as well.

I've got Psoriasis as well, but if you pick up T-GEL be prepared to smear the thickest nastiest feeling soquid on your head. Hahaha.
I don't know what happened to my scalp condition, it just really hasn't given me problems and I don't think I've done anything better/worse now or then.

Any particular foods that are regulars in your family's diet? My girlfriend's father was at risk for diabetes and it turns out that it can be caused by the tons of white rice some Asians ingest. He switched over the brown rice and voila, problem solved.

Most people at least read the content of the OP, instead of just the title. If a multivitamin is screwing the OP over, his body is already out of whack.
Huh i have the exact same issue but only when my body is cold or just not sweating. I get itchy whenever i eat spicy food or exercise (before i start to perspirate). Once i start sweating and my body is warm enough all the itching goes away. Its really annoying though and it feels like a static shock all over my body when its really bad and i'm like scratching all these places while making my skin red. I don't flake that much skin though and i don't have dandruff.
Worst in winter, non-existent in summer. Funny i hate summer yet its the one time i don't get static shocks and itching all over my body.
I have the problem but I think it's just the oils in my head naturally cause my scalp to do that more easily than others. I solve it by using a dandruff shampoo (actually only ones with selenium sulfide work in my case) while alternating between normal shampoo and showering pretty often (sometimes twice a day). It pretty much only happens a couple of days a month now due to forgetting to alternate shampoos.
I pretty much eat vitamins/omega3 everyday though so perhaps that helps factor into it :p, but congratulations. I know how much of a pain it can be, and when it was bad I used to do the same thing as you in the middle of class and just dust it off in the bathroom(not because of itch but because of appearance). It only really gets itchy for me when it's hot (not even sweating, just heat).
I used to have some dandruff when I was in high school but it went away. It's amazing what having a well balanced diet can do for you!
I'd expect Crohn's disease to be worse than most cases of diabetes. I know a guy who had his life expectancy drastically reduced after being diagnosed. However, there have been people who have far outlived any doctor's expectancy. I hope you are not in a bad situation in that regard.

But you can have just slightly flakey/itchy scalp without it being severe enough to be classified as seborrheic dermatitis or psoriasis, and that is when you just call it dandruff
On another note, a lot of people are saying "Oh I thought it was ecstasy pills"
I actually thought first that he was blogging about birth control, and how someone forgetting to take it changed his life or something. Not sure what that says about me, but yeah..
I used to have super awful dandruff. Once, I took a 48 hour greyhound ride (sigh long story but it was a last minute trip and I couldnt afford airfare) and sat next to some dude named Billy who I later learned was a hairdresser. I asked him what I could do about dandruff and he recommended using something with tea tree oil. That shit worked like a miracle.
chug down those chilli sauce with the chicken rice
can't have any food here without chilli <3
glad everything's fine now, i've had friends with severe problems that involved them having to shave their entire head off (and still didn't get it cured) :o

Dandruff comes from the scalp, not the hair. Shaving your head is only exposing the problem more.

Well, he did say 'shave their entire head off', so maybe he means decapitation? That'd fix the scalp good.

it was bad to the point that the skin was all red and stuff, it was nasty
