I've noticed and read the multitude of music threads on TL and after seeing someone else music blog I was inspired to make my own.
I'm obsessed with electronic music, from trance and house, through dubstep, dnb, to chiptunes and breakcore, and everything in between. I want to tell you about my love of electronic music, how I got into it and how my taste in it has evolved, but to do that properly I have to briefly describe how i got into music and my musical tastes before I started listening to electronic music.
I didn't really get into music much myself until I was in middle school (~12 years old). Before that my exposure was mostly pop on the radio which I didn't care for, and my parents music. My parents listened to folk music which I thought sounded weird then and I still think sounds weird, and my dad also listened to old rock, prominently The Beatles, and stuff like The Byrds, Bill Haley, Elvis, that was the music I was most familiar with growing up, I liked some of it but not enough that I would ever sit down to listen to it.
The reason I started listening to and collecting my own music was mostly by accident. When I went middle school everyone started using instant messanger, and one day when I logged on AIM the annoying daily news pop up opened and it had music on it, the bands were Nickleback, Linkin Park, Metallica and something I can't remember. I knew the name Linkin Park because one of my new friends from school was a big fan and talked about them. So I clicked on the video, gave it a listen, and I liked it. I didn't think it was amazing but I liked it more than my parents music. I decided to listen to the other songs on the page too. I listened to Nickleback and was not impressed, it was worse than my parents music, it was just bad. Then I listened to Metallica and it was awesome (ironically the song was from St. Anger) I loved the fast pace and heavy sound. I had to have more, so being the immoral, stingy teen that I was, I downloaded limewire and began stockpiling Metallica songs and virus's on my parents computer. Overjoyed to realize their older stuff was even better than the song I heard from St. Anger. From there I slowly expanded to other metal, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, and Manowar (the band my net handle derived from), and classic rock, ACDC, Led Zeppelin, you get where I'm going.
Wow, sorry that was hardly brief, so I think I'm going to make this into 2 parts. It's my first blog so I don't want to scare everyone away with a massive wall of text, I'm going to need to generate a fanbase if I want to move up on the blogging ladder. If you made it this far I thank you for reading and I hope you'll join me for part 2, which I intend to write after a quick League of Legends intermission.
