I have always shared a lot of personal stories with this forum from as early as 2002. From blind dates to girlfriends, friend meetings to travel pictures and stories, and not to forget school related questions and concerts.. Of course the community has changed drastically and expanded exponentially, which has led me to privatize and edit some of these stories. To an extent I also feel less inclined to share personal stories with TL due to my age (27!), and the fact that I actually have a lot of friends now. Or well, enough. This time though, the story is far from damaging or sensitive and I really want to share it. The story is simple: Imhappy. To be precise, I just fucking graduated cum laude from the (supposedly) best psychology studies in the country with a 8.5 average for the master Educational Psychology (now renamed to Learning and Human Performance). Professor Paas, a famous educational psychology and instructional design researcher, asked me to search for my own thesis subject and create a research proposal for the appropriate research questions. I do want to say too much about the study yet, but we ended up testing over 80 children (ages 10-12) during two sessions with self-designed study and test materials to investigate if the structure of a learning task influences the experienced affect, and immediate and delayed study behaviour and test performance. This led to interesting results which could and should be published in a good journal, and a solid 9.0 for the thesis (which apparently is insanely high! Whoop whoop!) Some of you may remember my story from previous blogs. I’m a high school dropout who basically had nothing due to private circumstances. I set goals and worked hard, which led to graduating cum laude, most likely a publication, a temporary position at the university, additional research together with awesome researchers and hopefully soon a good phd-position. Moral of the story: set goals and work hard for them. There are tons of possibilities even when life does not always go your way. Keep rocking! Congrats Bey. Link me to your study when you get the chance. Pretty interested myself. | ||
