Yuki So Good...What more is there to say?

Ok anyways, this is a blog about probably my favorite composer as of now. Most people I'm fairly certain will have no idea who she is but if you watch anime at all you may know who she is.

Yuki Kajiura is the composer for many famous anime such as Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicles, .hack//Sign, Mahou Shoujo Madoka, and many others. She is generally praised and is highly good at what she does. She has also created her own form of a language known by fans as Kajiuran.

Now the reason for this blog is because lately I cant stop listening to her work some of it is just so good for example this song from .hack//Sign
[image loading]

To me the song is very well done and has a great feel to it, also the lead singer makes it sounds 10000 times better than I think any native English speaker could do.

I'm trying my hardest to refrain from linking a ton of her songs, but I would recommend to anyone who likes composers in general to over look the fact that she is an anime and game composer and just listen to a few of her works and leave what you think about it in the comments.

Heres a few of my personal favorites by Yuki

Tsubasa:RC (Good Example of Kajiuran)

A interesting fact to give her even more praise for:

Kajiura does not have the pleasure of seeing the rough cut of the show she writes for.She is usually handed sketches of the characters, and what she and Koichi Mashimo have dubbed Music Menues, so she is often confused when she writes.

Mad Respect for that ^.^

Kajiura is no doubt good
but she's not the best

She often falls into a composition spiral that she can't get out of.
There's a term for this, called the Kajiura Trap, in which she will write stuff that serves no structure to the song, just random fillers and she can't recover from.

Here are some examples.

starting at 1:05
wtf, completely incoherent

from 2:00-3:20 she goes on autopilot...

The song completely breaks down at 1:35, and she never recovers from the jazz.
It just feels out of place.

Not that I have anything against jazz, some pieces from noir were great, it's just...often times I think she really ran out of ideas on where to take a piece and ends up falling into the trap.

After listening to the first one in terms of "music producing quality" I just cant believe that the second and the third ones are so terribad compared to the other one.

Dont get me wrong, they are nice, etc... I just cant understand why the first one is so nice and the others so so simple.

Loved the songs though. ty for sharing.

Her Madlax and .hack//Sign work are the best. Though her work product is always pretty good.

.Hack//sign. Period.

I remember watching this anime a few ( 7 ? ) years ago. The story and Char design are average, but the music was so awesome that it instantly became one of my favorite. I still listen to the OST once a week at least :D

Yep, that, Tsubasa Chronicle and Noir.

Those are definitely her best works.

This song is pure ecstasy.

Another good one:

This is the song was the first of it's style that I've heard. It is now my favorite style, but sadly the genre is unnamed T_T

Hmm, where does this sentiment come from?
Are native english speakers automatically inferior to native non-english speakers in creating ambience?
If not, why not say that the "lead singer makes it sounds 10000 times better than I think any other singer could do."?

A good second question is: why am I reacting to this statement? Is it because I perceive it as too generalizing and disparaging to other genres of music and artists? On the other hand, I am genuinely interested in why you think so.

For the record I do enjoy animes, myself. And anime music, but in 99 times of 100 just as a integral part of the anime and not as standalone music.

Totally love her, she's one of the few who made me search her out after watching animes that she has sung/composed for. She gives the song a very ethereal and melancholy feeling.

Everything Yuki Kajiura composes is amazing. I can't really think of any favorites because it's all so good. She makes the hype for Fate/Zero even greater ^_^

The statement is my own opinion and I believe it because to me it seems like her accent gives a very good ambience to the song, that a native english would not have.

For you to think I am talking down on all other music genres because I prefer how a Japanese singer sung english words, seems to be an Inferiority Complex with how you reacted.

Back to the topic though

Credens from Madoka, whenever I heard it I was in extacsy as well, so good :D

Mezame blew my mind when I first heard it.

Also, everything she did in El Cazador is great.
