After re-installing Broodwar for the god-only-knows-how-many time, we're in. I double click multiplayer, LAN, and create the game. I select a random 4 player map. Top vs Bottom. My muslces naturally adorn the Protoss armor I've grown accustomed to. He joins below me and slips on the Terran skin he knows so well. I add the two AI opponents and drop them into the swelling tides of Random. "Ready?" Our eyes lock above the screens of our laptops..."Do it" The enter key depresses and that sweet, simple sound starts the countdown. After five seconds, the Lobby slides away and we are left with a blackness that exists in between the stars...anticipation builds and I can't help but smile. I think to myself "I'm home"
Don't fool yourself....during the games that night....no hotkeys were used. Every unit that was built did so because his portrait was clicked over and over, filling the building que of all the gateways and barracks all the way to five. Tonight, Jaedong feels sensing that somewhere, off beneath the setting sun, two young men are massacring his sacred art, the thing he has given his life to, and for what?
Days pass. The games continue, and as others join, it becomes clear to me that there must be something more. Often have I had the feeling that, as I command my zealots and dragoons forward against the fearsome AI, I am not adequate. That under a true leader, these hapless souls could be lead to greatness, that they could be elevated to something greater than the 0's and 1's that comprise their DNA. I couldn't take it anymore. Somewhere there was a place I could learn, a place I could find a teacher, someone who could expose my inadequacies. Without thinking my fingers typed my destination. w w w . y o u t u b e . c o m. A quick tab to the search bar and like a seasoned veteran cruising the bar I know exactly what to say "Starcraft protoss strategy."
And there it is, shinging with the brilliance of the earth's first sunrise, "NonY's FPVODs: PvT 1 base Reavers"
So it began. After watching several or NonY's (not Tyler) videos I finally decide to venture into the promised land he spoke of.

Where it went from there is lost in the haze of history...but needless to say, it was a glorious day when I finally had the chance to meet Tyler at MLG Anaheim, and stand near him, wanting to explain that he had been my inspiration to take on the challenge of 1v1 in BroodWar. That my bestow and I had cheered and screamed silently when he eliminated IdrA from TSL2 (friends were watching a movie in the background) and that finding the old video of his 'courage' run had renewed my desire to get better at this game. Instead, I simply looked at his wife sheepishly and said "I'm sorry, I just wanted an autograph."
Liquid' Fighting.
