I wrote this at like 4 am and still slightly angry, so if anything doesn't make sense, that would be why.
Today there was a local tournament in my town. I had been stomping nerds for most of the day until my friendly rival knocks me into the losers bracket. We are now in the Loser's bracket semi finals.
Winner of this match goes on to face a diamond in the semis (we are both masters), and then my friendly rival in the finals.
PvZ best of 5, My being the Protoss.
First game I win in a long macro game with every base on xel naga caverns being taken.
Next game, I hold a hydra/spinecrawler all in with some clutch scouting and preparation.
3rd game I take an early lead but then am overwhelmed by fungal growth
So after losing a standard game, winning a standard game, and defending an all in it was my turn to all in.
The map is shattered temple. If he went pool first i was going to go an MC style 5 gate nexus cancel all in.
3... 2... 1...
Upon loading I box my probes and send them to mine. Furiously spamming I mentally go through my build.
I send my 11th probe to check for the overlord, We are cross position.
After throwing down my gateway I proceed to scout his base. I cross my fingers as I move up the ramp praying to Zeratul that he went pool first.
There it was, morphing in all pool like. Cracking a thin smile, I hid my probe.
"Game Paused"
I look around to see whats up. This tournament was held at an Internet cafe. A cop had decided to come in and check peoples ID for curfew. What. The. Fuck.
So after he realizes we are old enough to be out we unpause and I continue to carry out my build. Adding the nexus and 2 addition gates.
"Game Paused"
...
"hold on, my GF is gonna drive my friend home"
"ok be quick please"
"ok sorry, gogo?"
"Gogo" I reply anxiously.
Its time. My units march cross map on their way to victory. I warp in reinforcements via proxy pylon at the gold base and instantly Force field his ramp. Proceeding to have my way with his natural I continue to warp in units.
It appears that my attack is running out of steam early. Something isn't right. He held. Nobody ever holds if they pool first.
I look at the mini map and there it was. my "canceled" nexus. Taunting me. Due to the pause I forgot an extremely important part of the build. Cancelling the nexus.
For several seconds I debat whether or not to gg before I left the game. Reluctantly I type gg.
Not only did this tie the series 2-2, it ruined my mental state, I was in the zone and was playing my best all night. My concentration was shattered like a egg that just hatched an Ultralisk.
That gg was the most painful gg of my Sarcraft career. Frustrated like a Force fielded zergling I quickly start the next match.
As the game loads I am still filled with anger. I recall the Star Wars movies and how anger can destroy you and all that stuff that I hardly remember. But it is quickly thrown out of my mind.
The game starts. His hatch is late. He must be all inning me. Throwing down 3 cannons I prepare for the assault. It never comes. I proceed to make warp gates and attack. Without a proxy pylon anywhere on the map, my units trickle in one by 1 and are massacred.
yep... I made warpgates and attacked. Did not have a plan, did not have a build. Just made shit and attacked.
I was way too angry to focus and think clear I threw the game away, and my headset to the desk.
I hit the G key twice harder than I have ever hit them. and use my fist to hit enter punishing my innocent keys. It wasn't a good game, It was the worst game I had ever played.
I literally never rage when I lose, Physically that is, at worst I will mentally beat myself up but I have never broken anything due to gaming rage. Yet nerd rage took over me after that loss.
My opponent and spectators look at me confused. After my explanation my opponent still doesn't seem to understand.
If I had won that series, I would have beat the diamond player, putting me in 2nd place and allowing me a rematch against my friendly rival and friend who knocked me out earlier in the tournament.
I also felt like I deserved a good place since I practiced really hard all week, I even had dreams about a build I practiced for 3 hours straight. I told my friends I couldn't hang out because I had to practice.
Like I said, I never get upset over losses, but for some reason this loss was terrible. It felt like I put forth all that work for nothing, and that I should have won. It was as if I was robbed.
Things I learned. 1.Fuck da Police! 2. Also go into a game with a clear head. Never let emotions from the game before carry over. Its a new game, with fresh and pristine mineral patches. Your mind should be the same. 3. I need to practice more, and more effectively
I would upload the replays but they were not played on my computer.
I really don't think the cop lost you the tournament. You can't blame letting your Nexus finish when you should of canceled it on him. Sure he may have shaken up your mindset but he didn't directly cause it. That was a mistake on your own, why did you lose? You forgot to cancel your Nexus mistakes happen and what you should take from this is that focus is a very important thing when you have strict build orders to execute.
Hopefully when you cool down a bit you'll see that it was your own fault that you lost. Your emotions got the best of you and perhaps you'll be able to deal with it better later on. It really DOES suck that it happened but you can learn from all of this.
"A cop had decided to come in and check peoples ID for curfew."
Can they do this? Is there really a law that forbids people younger as X to be out later as X?? A curfew?? I don't even think most dictators / police states have this.
I know if a cop tries to do something like that here, he would be laughed at so hard it's not even funny anymore.

The US is a police state, though it's not as bad as some other first-world countries. That being said, curfews tend to be municipal rather than province-wide, and there is no national curfew.
After a pause like that I think you should take a few deep breaths before starting a match, thus helping you clear your head and getting you back into the game.
Before an unpause happens, you should first take a second to remember what you are doing before agreeing to the unpause, so when the game resumes, you know what you want to do next.
On a side note, if that was me, I feel that I would just rage quit after that forgotten nexus cancel and not even play the final game. >_<

Laws like that are very common. Minors aren't allowed to be out unsupervised after a certain time. That's true in virtually all civilised countries. Curfew probably isn't the right word here.
I feel your pain. I remember when I was living at home, parents would walk into room and talk to me while I'm trying to play. You pause and get so frustrated you forget what you're doing. The anger doesnt help your game either.

LOL me too. My mom would ask me to come to her because she 'needs help'. I pause, run to her, turns out she couldn't turn on the TV... =,=' I usually always lose after a pause from my side.

Really it depends on the city. When I used to live in NY and NJ it would be common practice due to crime levels, vandalism, and gang related activity. Now I live in FL and nobody really does that around here unless you live in a very urban community.
But even then, thats only if your outside. If your inside, like an internet cafe, or PC bang, they could care less as long as your not starting trouble.

Without trying to start an argument over whether such laws are good or not, this is far from true.
I just remembered a Day[9] Funday Monday where the opponent wrote: "OH SHIT IT'S THE COPS!!" and left the game in the first few seconds. XD
I feel for you, losing focus and getting frustrated is such a horrible feeling. It's like hitting your head against a brick wall, you just keep playing worse when you try to get into the zone.
Wow you'd think the cop had something better to do than harrass young people playing computer games. But really though you should have cancelled that nexus regardless

Sure is where I lived. Unless you were going to and from work if you under 16 you had to be back home by 10 on weekdays and 12 on weekends.

I haven't heard of a law like that existing in any european country.
I don't get the part about the pool first, doesn't every zerg go pool first in zvp? I mean if you go hatch first then you get killed by zealot + canons...

Yeah not just unknown in europe - doesn't exist here either. By all civilised countries do you just mean America, or was there a 2nd country?

This happened a lot. As well as yelling at me to do chores while I tell them I can't save.
There's no curfew thing I'm aware of in Canada. Maybe it only happens in more remote cities.

I was more amazed at something like that existing. If there is a law for this and the cop is doing his job who am I to blame him for doing it. Perhaps he even thinks it's a stupid law himself but we all have to do things at work we don't like. He can't help it somebody thought it was a good idea to implement this law.

Yeah I live in the USA (as does the OP) and I've literally never heard of this either. WTF?

if a police officer comes across a 12-16 year old at 2 in the morning by themselves they have the responsibility to ensure the child gets either home or to their destination safely. That's pretty normal. However going into a place and checking ID's is a little bit much. And yes younger children apply... but why the fuck is an 8 year old walking around at 2am. -.- lol

in emergency situations, this is true for adults as well. for example, post-hurricanes in south florida, where i live, there is often a curfew on everyone of like 11 pm (unless traveling to/from work), to prevent looting and crime and shit when the cops are busy dealing with post-hurricane shit
