So sorry. 16 Years is a good run though and I'm sure he lived a kings life in doggy terms.

Dude that sucks. Im a huge dog lover and I would be really sad if my dog died. No shame in crying over a lost family member.

Putting down my dogs overtime is one of saddest moments I've had to deal with... part of the reason getting older totally sucks... pets start going down. Just have to be happy you had such a great pet for that time, some people never get the chance to enjoy what a great dog can bring to their lives.
Try to remember all the good times they brought when they were wagging their tail and smiling at you

I feel you, dude.
My dog, Bali, died 3 weeks ago. Worse part is that I'm here in Kuala Lumpur and I didn't even see him before he died. My 2 brothers (one works in China and the other a student in Manila) were just as devastated. I was singing this song for a whole week.
Before Bali, I had 4 other dogs who died of old age. You'd think that if you cried once before, you wouldn't cry for the next one. But no. It's like losing family.
My girlfriend sent me this SMS, while I was at work a few hours after I learned Bali had died (translated from Tagalog):
"Don't forget that Bali had a great doggie life having been taken care of by your family. He didn't die of any disease or any unfortunate accident. I'm sure he died happy and fulfilled. His life was a success."
The next morning, my brother wrote a beautiful piece on Facebook. It was a long one, but I'll just put in the best part:
"Bali, wherever you are, know that we loved you so much, and it was a joy taking care of you, watching you grow, watching you grow to be an amazing dog. You were not a dog to me : you were a great person covered in brown fur."
And yes, I'm crying again.

My condolences. Being a former dog owner I know that dogs are family. RIP.

Same here. Losing my dog (late in high school, we got him as a puppy when I was 2) was much harder losing relatives, or anything else. It might take a while, OP, but before too long that emptiness will be replaced by a quiet fondness. You're always going to be able to cherish the memories of your dog. Keep some pictures around.

Sympathy from here, remember when my dog died, I was fucking hearthbroken

I don't know how much it means to you but you have my condolences. Losing a great pet is almost as bad as losing close family.

That's horrible, I'm so sorry. My lab had to be put down about 4 years ago now because she had crazy growths, one of which was putting so much pressure inside her nose that it would cause massive bleeding from the littlest thing. It seriously makes me well up a little just thinking about it.

t.t losing a pet is so hard. RIP

I don't even know what to say, I am so sorry, I hope you are ok. A great dog is an amazing part of your life I don't know what I'd do if I were in your shoes. Just remember the good times and cry as much as you want - you're allowed. Us internet pet-owners understand how you feel, it's making my own heart hurt reading your post. Hang in there.

Sorry for you, I've experienced it before, it hurts a shit ton.

Sounds like you gave him a good long life. A pet loss is the worst thing I have experienced, and I have lost 2 cats and 1 dog so far. Watching my cat being put to sleep was the hardest thing I have had to do in my life T_T
My condolences.

RIP to your special friend
