Same here. Losing my dog (late in high school, we got him as a puppy when I was 2) was much harder losing relatives, or anything else. It might take a while, OP, but before too long that emptiness will be replaced by a quiet fondness. You're always going to be able to cherish the memories of your dog. Keep some pictures around.

I don't know how much it means to you but you have my condolences. Losing a great pet is almost as bad as losing close family.

That's horrible, I'm so sorry. My lab had to be put down about 4 years ago now because she had crazy growths, one of which was putting so much pressure inside her nose that it would cause massive bleeding from the littlest thing. It seriously makes me well up a little just thinking about it.

I don't even know what to say, I am so sorry, I hope you are ok. A great dog is an amazing part of your life I don't know what I'd do if I were in your shoes. Just remember the good times and cry as much as you want - you're allowed. Us internet pet-owners understand how you feel, it's making my own heart hurt reading your post. Hang in there.

Sounds like you gave him a good long life. A pet loss is the worst thing I have experienced, and I have lost 2 cats and 1 dog so far. Watching my cat being put to sleep was the hardest thing I have had to do in my life T_T
