Eight Years…

Note: This was orginally just a word document of myself recalling past events when I get bored, I decided it might be nice to share my gaming path as that's what blogs do. So do enjoy as I share my path to SC2 with you and don't troll, flame or an other crap like that. I will update this as I complete each year in the word doc.

For the past eight or so years there has been a common theme to my life, good games ran my life. Since I was first introduced to computers this has been true, also you could go back even further into consoles with the likes of N64 although I don’t count that as I was still active outside with friends. So let us breakdown eight years of gaming from past to present.

Prologue…

My life of gaming truly started with the NES, I mean who could resist playing Mario Bros? NO ONE!

Dat Goomba!

Although this was a short lived introduction as I took a break and skipped most of SNES to N64 only playing Chrono Trigger. N64 is where I will start the story of addiction; of course it all began with Super Mario 64 & Mario Kart.

State of the art 90s graphics!

These games I played the hell out of, but they quickly became topped by the true gem of games, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. (What else did you expect). I will hands down without a second of thought declare this game the moment I truly begin to ignore real life.

That’s a big boss…

The game had it all, epic story telling, graphics that to this day I still enjoy, fun combat (Context Sensitive!) and memorable bosses. LoZ: OOT is where it all began and where it all will end for me… Or so I Thought.

Year 1-2…

Disclaimer: This point in the blog you stop reading if you cannot handle stories of addiction, perseverance, and no life nonsense.

2002, the year my life ended and my addiction began. It was this year I came into contact with the game of games, Counter Strike.

AWP, Mans Best Friend

I was watching my older brother play and became mesmerized by it, so he gave me a shot. Boy was that the worst decision he ever made in his life. Everyday after I continually bugged him,

“Please, just one round!” however it usually led to him kicking me out of the room.

Then it happened, finally one day he let me in and told me,

“Whenever I’m not home you can play, but only on your own tag.”

It was with that statement my first gamer tag was born “KK_Killer” it was meant to be a pun off my initials which are honestly KKK (No derailing plz). I quickly played the game feverously spending 6+ hours a day on the game, I eventually started to use my stomach disease as an excuse to play the game constantly.

Eventually I met my first friend on CS which led to my 11 year old self thinking I would be cool to mimic his name which was Dblbeanysnake. Hence I named myself Dblbeanysnake2 (lol…). Eventually I had found a Clan in CAL and got invited because of exceptional skill with snipers (scout ftw). This is when life was gone for me. I was now on the computer 8+ hours a day practicing never endingly even attempting to lock my brother out of his own room.

Then the expected happened. My brother, the gateway to the computer, graduated High School and moved…

I was served the trollface

For almost a year I went on withdrawals playing shitty online games on an E Machine until the day happened. We bought a computer and got cable internet again.

Year 3 of my gaming life was beginning but this time it was an RTS that would lead the charge.

Year 3…

RTS gaming was a concept that I found very pleasing I was a huge fan of Red Alert and still to this day will play it, however I had no concept of strategy other than MAMMOTH TANKS LOLOLOL. Although I thought allies were stronger due to GPS map control.

That Epic UI

But I somehow quickly found myself buying Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos. At first the game was extremely weird to me, I played through the campaign and got a grasp ofi t an also became immersed in the worlds characters and lore ( this also led to me becoming an extreme Warcraft lore nerd, and if you don’t believe me ask me any warcraft question).

As soon as I finished the campaign I quickly went onto Battle.Net and set up my account using my silly gamer tag dblbeanysnake2. I tried my hand at a couple of ladder matches and was quickly stomped into the ground.

Mommy Help Me

I eventually learned of custom games and was a huge fan of Tag’s, Footmen Frenzy, and TD’s. This led to my meeting of probably one of the first major friends I had in the game. As we all know when you have friends in a game you tend to go out less, which is what happened I was deathly hooked to WC3 now and my grades showed it. Eventually we joined a clan which led to my first major tag change and the one most people still know me by, Demon[of]Ice.

My Names Inspiration

The Demon[of] was the clan tag and as I love things affiliated with cold I chose Ice, and the tag seemed to work so why complain. Then once again the unthinkable happened, ROC was dying, TFT had just came out and I had no clue.

How was a poor middle schooler with crap grades supposed to convince his parents to shell out for a game!?

Year 4…

Part 1

TFT had come out in a very untimely manner, I had just gotten settled into moving from CA to CO and was spending half my time at my dad’s house (where my computer was). Also my dad was the one who paid for all the fun things I had such as internet etc. The untimely release with TFT however was my father had just used his money to buy us both 4 Compound Bows and Carbon Fiber Arrow (very expensive arrows).

So, hearing my mother was coming down from the mountain to go to Wal-Mart(she lived higher up so no big stores) I decided I would tag along and nag forever. Well my plan semi worked, after constant fighting she gave in I had Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne! It was hands down one of the happiest days of my life, I’m fairly certain I read the open up box flaps 5000 times on the way home + the manual about the new units.

Upon returning home I quickly installed the game and started with the campaign, it had picked up the story exactly perfectly and I was extremely pleased. Also I still can not get over how awesome Spellbreakers look in the game. Like shit son they were amazingly badass.

All Kinds Of Badass

The Campaign didn’t fail to please so I quickly got onto Battle.net to meet up with my friends. We began playing all our favorite custom games and what not for weeks, then the unspeakable happened, you guessed it, Clan Drama.

So Much Drama

The drama was astounding and I managed to lose my friend and a few others in light of it along with the GM hating me even though I was on his side of the argument. This eventually led down to them claiming they threw the match against me that decide my acceptance in the clan which I found to be somewhat hurtful seeing as I trusted them.
Part 2

With one last “Fuck You” I had left the clan and was now free again, seeing as TFT was still pretty new I decided it was time to try my hand at ladder again. IT happened again, my life was about to eat shit when I had discovered how much I loved playing Night Elves in ladder.

Night Elf For Life!

During my laddering era I met quite a lot of friends many of whom I still talk to, but one will always stand out, AlcoholHunter he was a human player with many games and we both had the same jackass attitude so it was like the perfect friendship.

The two of us quickly hit it off and began Arranged Teaming with a friendship that would stand the test of time, we had gone through so many clans it was unbelievable. Eventually we were known for our ability to destroy clans with little to no effort. Our trolling was unmatched and our 2v2 team was nearly to the point as well, we where spending all day practicing to perfect Talon/Archer + Knight Priest to easily stomp opponents.

But the friendship I thought would never end did. Alcoholhunter had been accepted into college and thus quit the game. I had just lost probably one of the best friends I would ever make in the gaming world.

Me…

Well after mopping around for awhile I began to get into map making, along with dota. As I began map making I quickly met more and more people as my work became known. I met the best JASS user in the world and still talk to him on a daily basis, along with the equally known Jesus4lyfe. Besides these two I had met yet again another friend who I would to this day still talk to (only friend from TFT I still talk to).

My mapping skills began to progress once again and I was known through most of the upper mapping community as the best terrain artist in the game. And was abruptly invited into the at the time prestigious Clan TTG.

Things began to be looking good for me until it happened, the thing all gamers feared. My mother the harbinger of doom thought I needed to see the shrink assuming I was “depressed” (mind you she was completely wrong I just couldn’t stand the idiots at my school much).

What its like to be at a shrinks office

Well this turned out to be a good thing actually, he concluded it was not me being depressed but more so my parents custody battle, so he assisted in getting me to live full time at my fathers for high school which would be starting soon.

This came as amazing news to me because it meant that I would be at my computer all day every day. What more could a teenage ask for? Alot.

To Be Continued…

Wait for them to divorce.
Have mother instate the expectation that only Father would buy us video-games.
Switch to a French school when you only speak english.
Blame the french language for all your terrible grades.

Worked for me for like... 4-5 years?
