First part: http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?id=247128

Wow. I leave for Korea in 2 weeks...
Time flies by so quickly! I haven't even started packing yet. :3

I have my flight booked, (well I'll be flying standby) health insurance card came in, my aunty gave me more won, my Korean is getting better, eating SO MUCH KOREAN FOOD here, and I got masters so hopefully I'll be able to compete with some Korean golds. :3

The main reason for this blog is that I'll be landing in Korea on the 22nd, and I don't have to go to school in Jochiwon until the afternoon of the 24th, so...

2 free days in Incheon! (and Seoul, I hope)

What's there to do in Incheon, and is it easy enough to get to Seoul?

I'm assuming I'll be staying at a hotel in Incheon, so will I have to take a shuttle to Seoul to do touristy things? I believe the GSL things are in Seoul, so hopefully those two days have some GSL things too!

Any information about places to check out or visit for my two days, or navigation tips would be awesome! Thank you!

Yellow barely ladders. That's why he's gold, not because he's a gold-level player.

That was a joke about the player always getting silver in competitions...

Yes it's easy to get to Seoul from Incheon and vice versa.. There's a million and a half buses that leave from Incheon Airport, as well as the subway. The only thing you need to learn about Korea is that the taxis are basically free... They are ridiculously cheap if you don't get in the black ones.

If you just wanna see touristy areas you can go to Hongdae, Gangnam, Insadong, Myeongdong, Dondaemun, Apujeong, etc. Here's a website: http://english.visitkorea.or.kr/enu/SI/SI_EN_3_1_1_1.jsp?areaCode=1

I wouldn't recommend you start going to museums and palaces and stuff if it's your first 2 days. Try to go into non-touristy restaurants and order food. It's a little bit uncomfortable your first time but you need to learn.

Thanks Chill..

So I really like 떡볶이 here in Hawaii, but I heard it's embarrassing if you order it in Korea cuz they call it kiddie food? True or not?

Yeah, I kinda wanna just look around and shop for my first couple days. Any recommendations on places to eat or see?

I better practice my Korean then, if I'm going to be ordering and not look like a complete babo. :o

If you want dukkboki, just find your neighborhood gimbap restaurant. They'll serve you up a big steaming plate of it. You can go large and get 'suh-peh-shul dukkboki' which is the same thing but with cheese and an egg, usually. It will run you about 4,000 won and no one will look twice at you. Adults and kids do this all the time. If you're getting it from street vendors in little cups for 500 won, they might look at you funny as it's mostly the kids after school who swarm those places.

When ordering, just remember to end the sentence with '-joo say yo' and you'll be fine. That you speak any Korean at all will surprise a lot of people. Be prepared to have to repeat yourself, though as accents are very tricky.

If someone starts rattling at you and you're completely in the dark about what he/she is saying, just grin, shrug and say 'han-guk mal-eul jal mol-la-yo'. (sorry, can't type Korean on my laptop.) It just means 'I don't know Korean well.' Shoot me a message when you get in. If you're getting a phone I'll give you my number and if you have any general questions you need answered, I'll do what I can.

You don't need recommendations. Just walk around and go in anywhere that looks interesting. Getting recommendations will make the trip less fun.

Don't worry about embarrassing stuff. My first couple days I kept asking my friend "Is it okay if I do this?" etc. Then a week later I realized no one really gives a fuck and you can do whatever you want. Ordering 떡볶이 is not kiddie, what the fuck. I ordered it like a million times when I was in Korea, especially street food.

Ordering is easy. "____ 주세요" is all you need to know. Connect food with 하고, so "_____하고 ______ 주세요."

If you don't know what to order, use "추천 주세요" (Give me a recommendation please).
If someone talks too quickly use "천천히 말해주세요" (Talk slowly please).

Those were the two most important expressions I needed in restaurants.

와 대박!
감사합니다!

I suppose street walking in Seoul would be as good as it gets.

Do you know where the GSL schedule is so I can see if I'll be around to watch some GSL live?
