So, the guy whose seat I took at MLG Anaheim posted (someone correct me if I'm wrong) that due to his work he'd be too busy to attend another SC2 event for awhile, and suggested I transfer my offer to a deserving fan.
So I'm going to offer a spectator pass +1 (a pass for you and a friend) for either: MLG Raleigh, MLG Orlando, MLG Providence, or NASL Season 2 Finals (whichever you choose). I'll also give the contest winner my press/vip access badge, provided MLG doesn't ban me from receiving such passes.
I'd like some suggestions on a contest I can hold to give away the passes. I don't want to make it random, I'd like to give the passes to someone who really is passionate about SC2, esports, and has always wanted to, but hasn't got the chance to attend such an event, because they're all breathtaking experiences.
Anyway, fire away some suggestions! <3

Oh man, I dunno but this is a great idea.
I was planning to attend Providence as my first SC2 / Esports event but don't have the funds and would love to take part in a contest to earn tickets.

How about you just don't be a dick next time?

perhaps you should take your own advice?
would love to see what you end up doing xeris. planning to go to providence but free passes can't hurt

make a csl contest and put this as a prize

I'm not sure.. I guess if it's not allowed I won't do it, but if it is allowed I will gladly offer that.

Yeah no problem. I learned how to do it from my years of hard work in ESPORTS. Much like yourself!
|
Providence will be the first chance I have to go to any ESPORTS event lulz, so I would love something like this...
As for a contest though-- you could have people submit something creative like a video/artwork/something along those lines about why they deserve/want the passes?
|
I would recommend giving the pass away to a dedicated community member (someone who clearly follows the scene well) but ensuring that their +1 is someone who knows nothing of ESPORTS and will be their first time at an event like this (Preferably a female). Small step towards expanding demographics of viewership.
PS. This is a great move
|
Mattchew, I'm offended!
I am a female who follows the scene well and wants to haul along a male who knows nothing of ESPORTS.
|

While your post is obviously in jest I would assume (correctly) that the female demographic at these events and in the community is much lower. I would recommend you bringing along another female who knows nothing of ESPORTS, its a harder sale
|
It is a jesting post (half serious though, cause I do want to go to MLG Providence and bring a male friend who really knows nothing about the scene, lolol).
Sadly I don't have many female friends, and the ones I do have wouldn't go lol. Too seriously invested in school and work. T_T
That said-- it would be awesome if someone used the +1 pass to bring someone who'd never had an ESPORTS experiences, and then wrote a blog/did a vlog about that experience for someone completely new.

The whole point of this debacle is that you're not supposed who decide who 'deserves' what based on some arbitrary judgement.
You should make the selection random and also make sure you get some autographed mousepads or w/e for the contest winners at Anaheim.

I like the idea of a "my day in eSports" video submission contest. Have people that love eSports talk about how they consume it daily and WHY they can't get to live events.
I know I consume eSports on my mobile device while I'm helping my daughter fall asleep. She sleeping on my lap while I watch the latest VODs or Day9 Dailies. I don't get to attend the live eSports events due to parental responsibilities and financial commitments. It's not like I'm broke, I have a fantastic job but an eSports weekend is a big commitment in both time/money.
Anyway. I think a video submissions could be cool and it would give others a chance to see how the rest of the community consumes eSports.
One more note: the contest should be community judged.
|
You can run a contest asking people to design a cheerful to bring to the event.
The funniest/most creative cheerful wins the tickets.
|
Will you pay for airfare as well? ;D!
Do a nominational process Meaning, the community nominates interested members and from there, the people vote :3 (if the person nominated accepts the nomination and can do this).
*give it to me D: I have no shame in saying I want it
|
I will bring I sign to Orlando.

Can't afford to pay for airfare T_T! Maybe in the future I'll be able to!
|
Well, clearly you should just give it to me. On the off chance that doesn't suit you, go with the video submission idea. The process could be similar to the NASL videos players did, but maybe not on youtube -_-.
I'm not sure how I feel about submitting artwork or a cheerfuls, because then it boils down to being a talented artist and maybe not being the person most passionate about Esports :p
|
You should give it me because I love the CSL so much and also Rutgers kind of pwned UCSD last season
Maybe have people write an essay about why they truly love esports? I'm pretty sure you'd only hear from the most passionate community members.
|
I think a video/picture/fanart submission would be best. Something that shows their dedication to ESPORTS?
|
The contest should be to try and think of the best contest idea.

This one is too small. They don't have their own e-mail address like universities. Student Union is too limited to offer such things.
They have no way of getting a validated e-mail address.

Okay, we'll talk about it and get back to you probably tomorrow ! :D

Xeris imo you don't owe the community anything. You've done so much for esports over the years that the community really owes you. You've done way more than any of these idiots that are criticizing and judging you. You had one little incident but whatever, people will forget it over time.

You should give it to whoever makes the most dramatic post on SC Reddit about chairs.

I think you win that one =D

You should have a game of musical chairs and the winner gets the pass : D
|
I have no clever way of saying this: I'd take that Orlando one.
|
Damn do I want to go now :D Too bad I live in Holland and it's expensive :D
But to be honest you already contribute immensely to the sc community so I really don't know why you think you owe anyone. Isn't your contribution enough of a compensation ? ^^
But if you really want to give a pass then make some contest in which participants contribute something to MLG/fnatic or just the general community. Like make some awesome banners and hype pictures like you always see in the BW LR threads
Or just a real nice slogan idk

I have an idea!
Have anyone who wants a pass put their name down. Make a lot of forged MLG passes and mix the real one among them. Send them out to everyone to put their name down. Make sure to notify MLG staff that there are forged passes out there so they do a careful check at the entrance, and also have police on scene. One lucky person will get to go to MLG while the rest will be caught at the entrance and then arrested by the police.

I live in Orlando and would love to go T_T. Have a smoking hot girl who knows nothing of esports who would go with me too!

How about you organize a small tournament?

You mean the Collegient StarLeague, GosuCoaching ProLeague, or the North American StarLeague? Cause Duran is already heading the premiere college, pro-team, and pro leagues in the North American space. There's not much left for him to conquer.
Well, I guess he can start a competitor to the AHGL.

How do you feel about giving them as tourney prizes i.e. donate them to next craft cup US winner or something like that?

Because I'm not certain that the winner of a craftcup will go? It would obviously need to go to someone I know will be attending

If you're paying for the trip+room and board too, I think I totally am the most deserving person for this.

Ask people to explain their love for starcraft in 20 words or less. Alternatively you can have a picture contest for people to demonstrate their love for sc2. How about a contest asking fans to create something to promote their love for esports (such as the esport aviators?)
tbh a lot of people who cannot show are limited by travel/board expenses (at least that is the case for me on top of time constrains). I have been jealous of some of my online friends whom got into esports from my influence and can attend events in person.
The VIP pass (if allowed to be given away) would be the steal: getting into the backstage and meeting every progamer personally would be the dream of every single starcraft nerd out there!
Since you work so closely with NASL, I would like to see some NASL contests for season 2.
