Hey, I'm going to post my first installment of a trip I made recently to a town called Mendoza on the western border of Argentina, but it still needs some work. In the mean time, does anybody know of any efforts to make LANs, which I assume (possibly/probably erroneously) consume a good deal of electricity, more energy efficient/environmentally friendly?
This is an honest question, I'm not trying to be preachy or spark any sort of debate. A good discussion would be great, so if there's one already in existence (a thread or something), I'd appreciate if someone could post it.
Thanks for reading, Elgran.

if you want to create a basic lan connection, plug two computers into each other with a crossover cable, and boom you have lan

andeh, it would be hard to think of something LAN-related that is less relevant to what the OP is asking about.
As for the question, I actually don't know how much energy a computer uses. Between the screen and the tower and possibly speakers (though the last are unlikely at a LAN event) I imagine they would use a fair deal.

Yeah andeh, to clarify I was referring to LAN tournaments (I guess that might be a misnomer nowadays, as far as SC2 is concerned) such as MLG, Dreamhack, etc.

I don't think there has been any concerted effort to make LANs more energy efficient, but newer machines tend to be far more energy efficient, consuming like half the power or less of older models, so it's a 'sum of the parts' deal, group of good machines will save over a group of bad ones.

I wonder if I could get specs on how much energy past MLGs have consumed. Doubt it, but I'll see if I can find something.
