I'm trying to find anything that isn't readily available in the States O_O...

So far, I've picked up a DT-35 for ~$20 and a mouse bungee for $5, but I can't think of any other goods that I would want to buy over here. I still have to take a plane back, so please limit recommendations to non-perishable/non-food/non-weapon items!

Why would you want to buy stuff in China. You can find stuff made in China everywhere in the world
Joking aside, I think buying tea is a great idea.

Dude I'm from Hong Kong and I know wtf is going on over there.
DON'T BUY JACK _ _ _ _ .!
It's FAKE!!!!!
Apparently Eggs over there were made out of plastic and oil were made of out something random.

You're risking your life buying food and eating them.

There's a joke here in Hong Kong about those Chinese :

Why were the nuclear powerplants completely fine after those massive earthquakes?
Because they are fake.

Lol w.e just try to buy as little as possible. And those gaming stuff? Unless it's a trustable brand, then don't buy it. You'd go home and find it in pieces.

Lol hk news has nothing better to do than to spread current affairs fearmongering over fake goods despite being a city that is dependant on importing both water and food from china. Why would anyone in their right mind go to china to bring eggs and soysauce to america? Avoid dried foods though.. unless you know what you are buying.. lots of fake dried oysters and stuff in china.

Has it occurred to you that people go to China to deliberately buy fakes/clones that are made from the same oems?

Anyways if you dont know what you are buying then its probably a good idea to be verrrrry careful. But theres alot of random utility stuff in markets that are pretty clever. Stuff like takeaway bag holders for the car, ciggarette lighter/holder, table hooks for bags and random stuff like that. Clothes are also pretty good depending on the city. I think one of the funkier things we got was a portable induction stove top and a boiler for cup noodles lol. Check the voltages to see if they will work back home though. And be careful of dodgy wiring.

Depending on how good your local accent is, you can get good quality tailored clothing for rock bottom prices.

EDIT: That, or take some relatives with you.

Buy ~50 R4 (ds flash carts) units at 35RMB each

Resell for $20USD/unit, made a quick $1k

If you are in Beijing, try the silk market. (they sell stuff from clothes to electronics). It's where foreigners get bargains (everything is marked up like 500%, you have to bargain).

They're probably fake, but the bottom line is that they work and let you not pay for ds games. Worth $20 fake or not to some people. It came in a box w/ a disc+micro sd adapter.

Funny thing is, I have amazon feedback saying the r4 was legit lol

It is in the legal grey area, so I would be careful. Also, the hk guy is correct in that there a shitload of counterfeits, so caveat emptor

the silk market is filled with fake shit, and foreigners think they get a bargain because they get a 80% discount and what not.

I just came back from Beijing, and I did not buy anything. In China, anything worth buying is overpriced. Tea is a good suggestion, but I don't recommend buying them, try stealing from them friends and family instead.

I know what I'm doing buying things... the people who say that everything is fake have been shopping in the wrong places O_O. It's still ridiculously easy to spot fakes from real things, and while things such as fake PSPs, DSes and such are very common, you can spot the fakes within a second of holding them.

I'm willing to try my luck on mechanical keyboards simply because they're such a niche item which means that there isn't really any incentive for manufacturers to produce fake items. For electronics, I pick the big shops that have a lot of brand-name items, not street vendors >_>...
The idea that anything worth buying in China will also be expensive is simply not true--this rule only applies when dealing with foreign made goods in China. Since there are many Chinese manufacturers of keyboards, I can find some good deals.

Picked one of these today:

What if the fakes are worth buying?

Low end electronics/hardware (ie mouse, keyboard) are worth buying, but I'd say that's about it. Everything else is fake, not safe, cheaper in the states, or all three.

I still made $1k off the r4's while my customers were satisfied as well (though the r4 does fit in the low end electronics category...)

And loser, you have to be more careful in china. Big stores, like the silk market (even fake apple stores) exist and sell counterfeits.

You could probably get away with calling them "imports" in the US

I still think the R4 has more profit per unit, and more importantly, more profit per suitcase volume

Well then buy cheap (but nice looking) clothes :/

Or tea :D

Also, chinese shopping is funny in that a lot of stores won't carry shoes over size 10 (even the nike store in wuhan)
