I type with one one finger on each hand and hence when I play sc2 I only use my index finger for every hotkey/command(not counting pinky for when I shift) Should I start somehow getting out of this style(which I have been doing for years) because im sure it hampers my eapm. Do any pros only use one finger for the left hand commands? This is how I type for the most part. It's how I have always typed, though I used to be even worse about it. I was quite good at brood war, and I am alright at sc2 with little time/effort invested. But let me tell you, this typing style is of HUGE detriment and it will be very difficult to play with a high apm. Sorry, that's just how it is. And actually to be honest, my typing got a little less reliant on "just 2 fingers" because of me taking brood war seriously. I had to develop better use/control in some of my other fingers.... but it never got good I was just too conditioned in how I typed.

Because I played fps's for so long, for the longest time I hit all hotkeys with either middle or index finger. I could hit 5 but that's about as far as I could stretch. I hit a wall somewhere around high diamond where I just needed more hotkeys, and thus I spent about a week learning to hit 1 with my ring finger. Suddenly I could reach two more hokeys with relative ease, and could improve my control by that much while still retaining my macro, in addition to speeding up a bit because my fingers spend less time travelling. Long story short - learn to type properly and you'll get a lot faster, guaranteed. None of the pros I've seen use one finger, or even two to hit hotkeys. They all use 3, and in some cases 4.

![]() Two finger typing on TL should be bannable. If you two finger type do you look at the keyboard for every hotkey? That basically is wasting your "eye" apm too. You should use every glance for the screen not the keyboard. Learn to type (ltt) so you can learn to play (ltp).

Main problem would be setting and using control groups (which would be impossible), which is very important. The other huge problem with using only finger, is it also results in not knowing exactly where each key is, making reaction time slower (aside from the slow reaction of always having to move around fingers). With a full hand on the keyboard, the fingers will be mapping the keyboard, allowing any key to be accessed easily without looking at the keyboard. just as arrow keys WASD, jump/shoot/etc. are memorized and readilty pressable in other types of games like platformers and shooters, the major hotkeys used to play SC2 should also be memorized and readily-pressable. Nexus word wars is a fun sc2 typing game that can be used to practice typing skills, but might be hard to play random pubs without friends.

How do you a-move 2 control groups of units, while macroing? Do you move your index finger and 1-a-2-a and then 3aaddd? That is how I do it >.< Thanks for the advice guys! I'm going to try really hard to get the touch typing down pat using some programs/type games and then I hope itll translate to better sc2 skill ^_^
